I bought a pair of AK52's earlier in the year for mixing/recording at home and totally love them but kept rolling over the lead with my chair it was only a matter of time befor i damaged the lead. I thought id treat myself to an upgrade with these cans which have the option to use a coiled cable. On the whole im a bit dissapointed while there is a marginally superior sound quality these things are as uncomfortable as hell. Total skull crushers. Nice features and build but not worth the £50-70 price diffrence. In my opinion. If your on a budget get the 52's they do an equally good job with isolation and sound great for studio work.
These headphones sound terrible, you have to turn up the volume so much just to get some semblance of bass and I understand they're meant to be levelled but somehow (and I've used studio headphones before), these headphones just take all of the magic out of any sound coming through them.
The sound profile is the most peculiar thing I've ever heard, it's like the "sound room" was rearranged in the oddest way and every sounds timbre and warmth feels off. Not enough to punch you in the face but enough that instead of using them I went back to my AKG K240s. I bought new headphones to replace these and ended up going back because I was so dissapointed. I only write this review because my old headphones have broken and I'm now forced to use these horrible headphones. At times I've chosen to not listen to/ make music instead of having to use these headphones
They keep the sound in and you can hear every sound I guess but I'd rather mix on a pair of airpods
If you buy them after reading this review I hope my "I told you so" echoes in the back of your mind for eternity
I have owned a pair of these for over a year and they are used for hours everyday. They are thrown about, the cable is pulled, and they have suffered lots of abuse. They refuse to stop working. They are without doubt the most sturdy cans I have ever owned. As for sound quality, you can't go wrong with 271's. They are pretty flat and deliver a decent roomy sound and not artificial bass or boxiness. An all round great set of cans.
Typical Black Friday move advertising some inflated price and reducing it as if it’s a good deal. These are never premium headphones and it’s obvious as soon as you open them. Cheap plastic material on the headphones and thin hard plastic wires for the connection. Anyone who’s used premium headphones such as pioneer understands the difference between this and the rubber that’s found on the more expensive products. Sound quality is poor no real bass response and, again, compared to the premium products it stands out a mile. These are £40 headphones at most and it’s a disgrace that they are advertised otherwise. Not just amazon either other websites show positive reviews and illustrates the problem that these websites give whatever reviews they’re paid to give. Returned immediately and sticking to pioneer or behringer.
I have a number of AKG240 phones which i have found to be excellent. The replaceable lead is great and means that the phones are not dumped when the lead gets damaged. I got the AKG271s in order to record vocals and reduce the bacing tracks bleeding onto the mic. Sonically I prefer the open ear phones but the problem has been a failure of the right channel. Its not a lead problem as the lead works perfectly with the AKG 240s. Disappointing!
Bought these for use with an electronic drum kit and as an upgrade from the AKG K44 that I normally use. I really wanted to love these headphones but I was really disappointed with the audio quality and their lack of ability to deal with low end. They would clip at the slightest hint of kick drum to the point where I thought they must've arrived damaged. Compared to the K44, they seemed to have nowhere near the level of volume handling... which was a real shame as I liked the look, comfort and features... but in the end, I had to return them as simply not fit for purpose. I really hope I had a duff pair...
A quanti dB poi, -6?
Very comfortable with a nice clamp (coming from a senn head-vice user), especially so with the velour pads. Fairly neutral sound, slight emphasis on higher vocal region. Very open sounding even when compared to similarly priced open-backs. Fits very well with piano but not recommended for a bass-head or most southern rock. These 'will' feel a touch tacky / toy like if you are used to higher end headphones and lack the deep end impact I was expecting compared to some other closed-backs. Material-wise they are quite light and the plastic feels very thin unlike higher spec'd nylon/polymer. Be aware this is reflected in the soundstage. Almost a four but not quite.
I spent a fair amount of time deciding upon this purchase. I could very easily have purchased a set of Grados or Beyerdynamics, either of which would (I am sure) have been nice. However, I decided upon these AKGs and I am very pleased that I did.
In this age of disappointing overtly plastic products, I had been concerned that build quality would suffer. Whilst these are still a very cheap set of headphones, the build quality is pretty good. They certainly feel robust - the separate lead is a real bonus in this respect. They are also very comfortable. The sound reproduction is good - with catholic tastes in the past three weeks I've listened to pop, noise pop, hard bop, alt-country, sacred and classical music, and been very pleased with the reproduction.
Great value for money....good sound quality for a closed headphone of this type. Very comfortable. Nothing negative to say at this price (or three times the price). Bought for the quiet hours when open headphones are a non starter; does the job very well. A bargain.
