This game is amazing and one of my favorites. I've completed the storymode several times on every difficulty level and can't get enough of it. The unique combat system and abilities are so much fun. The skill/talent tree caters to different play styles and offers a unique experience each time you play. I never played the first in the series but didn't find myself missing it. The story was interesting and the game has a lot of humor built in. There's a multiplayer mode with its own story and 4 different characters to play as, each with their own unique talents. I never played much of the multiplayer because the characters just didn't compare with the main story character but it's still fun. I highly recommend this game for a unique fps/rpg experience but it's definitely not for kids. I really hope to see another one in the future with even more abilities and expanded multiplayer.
When purchasing games, I really do not care about length as long as the game itself is fun. There seem to be too many run-of-the-mill shooters out there that have more lengthy campaigns, but they are nothing short of being boring. Thankfully The Darkness 2 does something that most shooters do not. This game provides a great story, interesting gameplay mechanics, and it actually brings the player into the story to root for the anti-hero. Shooters are a dime a dozen nowadays, but do not miss out on this amazing gem. You will do yourself a great disservice. Believe me, it is worth the time and money.
