I'm running this connected to a MacBook Pro 15.4" Core 2 Duo with Logic Express. No lock ups reported, and there was no drivers to install. Item is extremely to use, and recordings are clear sounding. The onboard microphone preamps are quite nice (the frequency response sounds true to 20hz-20khz), but if you feel you need to add to the quality for vocals, you can still run a tube preamp into one of the other channels 5-8). The design is patch bay friendly, and the outputs can be routed to an outboard mixer. Apparently, if you register the product, you can actually download an open source multitrack program sponsored by Behringer for free. I haven't tried that, yet. If you're a home studio recording enthusiast, this is the item for you!
This is the 2nd FCA1616 I bought. I had one already for my live rack, but I went looking for an audio interface for my studio, since my trusty Digi002 just doesn't have good drivers anymore. I was actually biased toward getting something new, but after reviewing all the alternatives this interface was the best bang for your buck.
After 4 months of intense use, I woke up one day and there was no sound. I can't tell you how disappointing this is, although, I can tell you that this is a hardware problem, because the MIC/INST all stopped working at the same time. The unit used to run a little bit warm, but now there is nothing, as it is cold to the touch. I think a dusty tear fell out of my eye... This is the second firewire product from Behringer to fail me in the last two years.
I am not happy with this outcome, because I now know the trouble a person has to go through to get repairs. I am officially never going to purchase Behringer products again. I have owned a lot of hardware over the years, from many manufactures, but this foray in to firewire products from Behringer has demoted my faith in computer audio altogether by a few notches.
The latency of this product was becoming a problem as well, but what can you expect with the price-tag as low as this.
My next purchase for computer audio is going to be well researched and acclaimed by many professionals.
Two middle fingers way up to Behringer for these cheep DISPOSABLE products!!!!
Great interface but I bought it with the intention of mounting it on a rack, and my package didn't come with the rack mounting hardware. Very disappointed in this oversight and I can't seem to get in touch with anyone to try to have them replaced.
I wish I hadn't purchased this audio interface. With buffer settings (for both stream and ASIO) lower than 10 ms I get very pronounced popping and crackling on Win 7 x64. Changing USB ports makes no difference. That makes this device pretty much unusable. I want to like it but when I have to introduce huge latency just to get a clean sound it's not worth it. The number of inputs and outputs are what sold me on it and not being able to use it without problems is extremely unfortunate. If only it could handle shorter buffers...
Ok for the price but a hassle to deal with. My unit needs to be disconnected and reconnected after a reboot for the firewire to be recognized. other little things small pains in the butt...But it has the most features at this price point.
Very nice unit. Windows recognized and installed both WDM and ASIO drivers. Windows sees combined 1/2 input as well as 1 and 2 etc individual. Outputs work good as well. Mains plus phones 1 and 2. I can't be more pleased.
