This is one of the most exciting and inspiring art books I've purchased in recent months; Californian art commentator John Seed has coined a name for a whole movement that has been slowly building internationally based on realist painting that represents the visual discombobulation of the modern world.

This is not a school or a particular style; rather it is the response of individual figurative artists to our times – as a painter myself, I find it personally enlightening as it quantifies some of the developments my own work has been taking in recent years and in the work of other artists I've known about, both in my own circle and abroad.
The book is very well illustrated with large full-colour plates presenting the work of 38 artists; each artist contributes a short interview about their work and influences.
This is an excellent and highly recommendable volume for anyone interested in current figurative painting; it finally gives a name to developments in serious art that have been ongoing for several decades and are now emerging centre-stage.

"How has fragmented modern life - the most distracted generation ever - influenced art?"

Work by 38 artists is presented to show how painting reflects the subjectivity and disruption of life in this century.
Personal favourites include: D'Ospina, Louis, Kordic, Monks, Kringen and Opdenbrouw.
Instagram searching reveals many more excellent examples of current artists whose work I hope will be featured in future volumes.

Real craft skills are back (Realism) but disrupted in many interesting ways unique to each individual artist.
Perhaps coinciding with the death of Postmodernism and its (misguided) general rejection of excellence / craft skills.

This is a timely book highlighting a developing movement that is gathering momentum.
Recommended.

This is one of the most contemporary art books I’ve found and fairly hefty too. Full of examples of artists work and interviews with each. I’m referring to it a lot at the moment as I’m working in a similar way. Can’t recommend it enough.
