I am doing this review with the microphone is included as well as the software. I am able to speak freely, and was able to do the install in about 15 minutes. There was was false snag that wasn't the software's problem, but once the audio card by real tech. There was apparently a problem with the drivers that I had and the program crashed my computer. I had to reboot, whereas after reboot. I found out upon doing a Google search, that this was a common problem with HP's and built-in audio cards for real tech HD if you go to the real tech website you can download the updated drivers and that is fine. One thing I have noticed I have a four core processor, which it would be a very fast, however, the software takes about seconds before I see the words when typing. In this review I have found no problems posting the information that could on this page. I have not found errors punctuation is optional. So you can turn it off or on or use of punctuation word and it will put in place.

I've only done two trainings for the software, and so far it seems to do very well. When using this software. It's kind of like you're having a conversation or during a newscast. The voice has to be clear and precise, and the program appears to learn very quickly. As you can see by my review. There is little or no errors and this was after doing a review. When the program was only three days old. I would highly recommend this for any XP Pro user. It is not Vista friendly even though the software says it is compatible. There apparently is a learning curve with Vista. So therefore it is not recommended. It does say however, it is compatible with Windows 7. It does not take long for it to learn larger words and adapt to what you're saying such as informative, litigation, where normally and other software simple words like this would've come up with errors. I would say that I am impressed with the software. I wish that it would type out a little bit faster than the screens I would have time to know whether I've said the right word, and it will come out correctly. However with my processor being very fast,it just in time is minimal to see anywhere from 1/10 of a second to 3 seconds depending on how fast I talk. It is also noticed to make sure that you take breaks in the middle dictating a sentence.

For being a reasonably older version. It appears to work very well, and any errors on the screen are usually due to be not pronouncing the word correctly,or heavy pauses. For basic usage and overall office use. I found myself making less errors speaking that I would if I was typing the words. I am not a great speller, so therefore, I find punctuations words, and sentences tend to make more sense when I am speaking as opposed to typing. Thank you for reading my review.

Because of nerve damage I have a difficult time typing and thought that this software would be useful. I purchased a good digital microphone and installed the software. Setup seemed easy enough and the learning software was reasonable. I didn't use it much because it seemed to have problems with Microsoft products (though I could buy an upgrade that - in theory - worked better). A couple weeks later I purchased another piece of software for learning a foreign language and soon neither worked. I uninstalled the language software and reinstalled the Dragon software and was plagued by a window that was always trying to re initiate the program (never successfully). Not an uncommon problems I researched it! If I completely wiped out the program (including deleting the sub-directory and clearing out the registry) the program would work once. I have Windows 7 64bit, 12 gigs of ram, an i7 chip and 2 terabytes of HD space so hardware should not be a problem. I gave up on Nuance.

Then the cards and email came from Nuance to buy version 11. They were worse than the most persistent telemarketer. I ignored all the cards and mail and then the phone calls came. Even after I listened to one sales person's entire pitch and told them no repeatedly they STILL called and emails every day. I rue the day i gave them a valid phone number, email address and home address. If you do buy this software give them a PO box and not your real phone number!!

How well does the software work? Not great, but acceptable for someone who has the time and patience to go back over and correct 30%.

The new software claims a MUCH better rate of recognition. Instead of giving purchasers an update, they chose to soak people by getting them to buy a new package.

I gave them two stars instead of one because for some applications they do work better that typing it all in by hand, but do not be foolish enough to believe that this software will transform how you enter words into your computer.

Dragon Standard 10 is MUCH improved from prior versions

This review is after using Dragon Naturally Speaking Standard version 10 for three weeks. I speak without an accent, I trained it for 20 minutes by reading a section of the book Willy Wonka, and it now performs superbly. I was very skeptical about this software for two reasons: the first is that I have read the other reviews here, many of which say that there are glitches, issues, and poor customer support. The second reason I had concern was that I owned an earlier version, I believe it was version seven, and it was horrible. Essentially, it was so impractical that I did not use the software once purchased. Despite these reservations, I purchased the version 10 software, and I use it every day. I can open Microsoft Word, or OpenOffice.org, and dictate fully and absolutely directly into the software. Dragon naturally speaking is very fluid, extremely accurate, with perhaps one error per paragraph, and it saves me a tremendous amount of typing.

I've tried to dictate directly into e-mail, blogs, etc., and I've run into one problem: it seems as though it can be working for a time, perhaps a minute or two, and then it suddenly stops working or hits a certain voice command that exits me from the online program. It clearly does do best by working in a word processing software program, and then I simply cut and paste to any place that I wish for my opinions and comments.

I have secured a Logitech desk microphone. Although the microphone and headset that came with the software is adequate, I found that wearing the headset continually is unnecessary and uncomfortable. Really, listening to my own voice or reading back with the software is seldom used, and that's I do not need the headset at all. I simply need a high-quality microphone, and the Logitech USB desktop microphone has performed extraordinarily well for me in this regard. I highly recommend it for anyone wishing to dictate for any length of time.

All in all, I'm very pleased with the software. It is saving me tremendous amount of typing, and I know that I will use it now for the upcoming years.

I purchased this software for personal reasons -- mainly to be in the task of transcribing my handwritten journals into a typed format.Typing my journals by hand a cumbersome and time-consuming task and after two years I had only managed to transcribe 2 and a half of my 18 journals. Needless to say if I had continued by hand I would have been facing almost 2 decades of transcribing. I received Dragon Naturally Speaking on Monday and by Wednesday evening had managed to completely dictate an entire journal accurately.

This program is a godsend.

However, it takes a lot of patience to get used to the learning curve, not only using the program but also for the program to learn you. I did a quick easy tutorials and tried jumping right way into my task and I encountered a lot of "speed bumps" along the way. I found it helpful to go back and do some more of the trainings within Accuracy module.

It takes some getting used to; particularly adjusting your speech to make yourself heard, and also speaking in dictation (giving commands for punctuation, or instance.) I found this program to become an invaluable part of my computer usage, and I found it to be a wonderful amenity to my everyday interactions with the Internet (like dictating this review, for instance!) I am glad to have discovered something that has a purpose beyond my initial reason for using it and has found a way to become a staple -- almost a necessity -- such as a mouse, or keyboard!

For any person considering this program, whether for enjoyment or for personal or professional reasons, it takes patience to adjust yourself to this new technology that at one point seems science fiction. I find it best as though I am telling a story to a small child has a better helps me to pace myself and for the program to better understand what I am saying and in what context the words are being said.

I don't type very well, and my handwriting is well-nigh illegible. About a year ago I bought a copy of Dragon naturally speaking voice recognition for dictation. It took me a while to get used to collecting my thoughts before I dictate them, but now I cannot imagine how I ever lived without this capability. The accuracy is first rate -- as is the speed. My writing productivity has gone through the roof (of my mouth:-)).

Whenever I have to write something now (emails, forum and blog posts, technical documents, etc), I always use Dragon -- unless it's less than a sentence in length.

Since the Amazon Kindle 2.5 update was announced on April 29, I have been posting in the Amazon forums quite extensively -- all of which have been dictated through NaturallySpeaking. You can read my postings and see that the accuracy is quite good.

Dragon also offers the ability to use voice to control application interaction. I did not acquire the product initially to do this, but over time I have come to use it to a limited extent in certain situations. It works well (there are a few cases where it can get confused between a dictation and the command, but Dragon provides a dictation window which can be used to eliminate that problem).

Even though they claim with version 10 that training is not required, I found it worthwhile to spend the 20 minutes doing so. Also, as you are dictating, if it makes a mistake, take the time to correct it through Dragon -- accuracy improves dramatically as it "learns" your writing style. After I've dictated a piece, I find that using Dragon to correct punctuation, edit a document, etc is an unanticipated joy -- it's so easy!

Good software; Troubled install

First the good,the software once you have it installed works very well. There is a learning curve, so be patient with the software and with yourself. The headphones that ship with the software are adequate but you may want to replace it with your own. For the $30 price tag, which is what I paid for the software, it is worth it.

Now for some bad, the install did not go smoothly. I have an up-to-date Windows 7 machine with plenty of RAM so I knew that was not the problem. For some reason the software refused to install from the DVD. So I went to the website, where I was able to get a free upgrade to 10.1 this is the same software that came with the DVD because the box came with a sticker that said Windows 7 compatible. to make a long story short something on my computer with stopping the software from downloading completely. I kept getting a number of error messages. I looked around on the Internet and found the advice to do a clean boot start to my machine. You can Google clean boot start, basically it is just starting up your computer with very few programs running in the background.Once you do the clean boot start just put in the DVD and it will install. Do not forget to put your computer back to normal boot mode That did the trick! From that point the software installed, it took a while but it installed all the way. I am now using it and I'm very impressed. Well worth the price!

I wanted to try the Dragon Standard because when I type my mind wanders and I start loosing my train of thought or get off subject. It works good for me, I don't use all the punctuations and the other aids that you can set up in this program, I just use the basic dictation then punctuate as I proof read and make minor adjustments. This program fits the bill.

When I read through the installation and set up I got worried that it would be complicated. It was not. I used the quick install, I read through the short voice recognition exercises ( which is critical for successful results) and that was it, simple and clean. I am not a computer wiz but it installed easily and worked great.

The important part is making sure your mic is set up in front of your mouth properly. To use the program just open the program, turn on the mic, open up a microsoft page, put the headset that came with the program on, I set up the mic into position then begin a few short test sentences. I move the mic up and down after each sentence until I find the right position whereby it catches all my words accurately, then I am good to go.

To start a new paragraph I just hit enter, I keep it simple and it works just fine.

For the price , simplicity and convenience it worth buying.

Changing My Formerly Positive Review - After 98.8% Accuracy Rate Out Of The Box...

Nothing changed on my computer from the day I successfully installed and ran this software until two months after I bought it. Now, nothing I do will make it work right - not even a complete reinstallation without importing my old sound files, installing the software and training it 'fresh' with none of my old Dragon Naturally Speaking training files installed.

I was doing absolutely everything successfully with this software - from dictating into Microsoft Word to surfing the Internet. Now, without any changes at all to my computer, software or peripherals (I did buy and install a new wireless mouse, but I completely uninstalled the software and removed the mouse just in case that was causing the problem.) I've gone from a 98.8% accuracy to somewhere around 50%. There wasn't anything on the DNS company website under support options that successfully resolved the problem. My next step is to call DNS support before my limited warranty and included technical support expires.

I even (based on a friend's first-hand experience with this software) ditched my new wireless laser mouse for an old-school Logitech PS2 trackball with a PS2 connection (the roundish kind of old-style mouse connector.) This didn't solve the problem and I'm super disappointed.
