Great concept that falls flat

I love the idea of bluetooth surround speakers, but even after a firmware update (that is supposed to correct the problem), the speakers work great for a while, then begin to crackle. It's a horrible noise, which can only be corrected by disconnecting the power supply to the affected speaker.

This is a known issue to Klipsch.

In order to get the full effect of these, you must download the firmware update on your soundbar. Otherwise you'll be confused and upset that you spent all of that money of yours. You have to go on Klipch website and download it and you'll also need your serial number which should be located on the back of your soundbar. Yes, the serial number matters. Without the update, the surround speakers will sound very faint to the point where you will need to actually place the speakers on your ear to hear them. Also another important part is to have a USB port NO LARGER, I repeat, NO LARGER than 7GB. Otherwise the update will not work at all. There is a YouTube video that shows exactly how to update the soundbar depending on which one you have directly from Klipsch themselves. Everything about this product in my opinion is outstanding.

I have these connected to the Klipsch Cinema 600 sound bar, so it now automatically decodes and plays 5.1 channel sound. Our basement den now offers a welcome substitute for cinema-quality loudness, clarity, and surround sound effect. Even when watching/listening to standard quality content, they sound excellent. Many of the negative reviews mention that they are not loud at all, but it looks like most of those reviewers paired these with a Bar 48 without first updating it with the latest firmware. Also, it would not surprise me if the settings on their TVs and connected devices were not correct. The input device might need to be set to send its sound to the TV in Dolby or other digital format, and the TV needs to be set to output its sound in Dolby (or DTS Neo 2:5 or other surround format). If those settings are not correct, then the surround speakers might not make any sound at all, or they might crackle and pop, etc. Once you learn how to use the various controls, you’ll easily be able to individually adjust the volume on each of these, and to maximize or minimize/turn them off with a few clicks on the remote. Don’t believe the haters! I know these aren’t Atmos, but I’ve heard friends’ newer and pricier systems with Atmos, and I don’t think my ears can distinguish any difference. Klipsch for the win!

Im using these with the Cinema 600 Bar and they work great, they actually automatically synced when I plugged in the USB bluetooth dongle(on the right of the bar, take off cover off to get to it) I used the Klipsch andriod app to update my soundbars firmware, this is needed so the surround sound works correctly.

By default the speakers are on the quiet side relative to the bar. You CAN adjust the volume of the surrounds separately to bring them up relative to the bar itself & yes they will still adjust up & down when you turn volume up & down regularly. They also turn on & off with the bar so nothing extra is needed at all.

There's a review on here that mentions when you turn up the volume on one speaker the other one goes down, that's NOT true.

In order to connect these to ur sound bar, u have to download the firmware on a USB from ur computer, then plug it into the back of the sound bar and follow instructions online to update it. After that, follow instructions to pair the speakers. It’s hella complicated, but in the end it makes a huge difference.

After figuring out how to set them up, I felt like I was in a movie theater.

Update: Well after playing around with them a bit more, I'm a little disappointed. You can only adjust the balance of the speakers, you can't add volume to both speakers if needed. In other words, if you make one louder, it makes the other weaker. For speakers that are already factory set to a low volume, this is disappointing. These are worth 125.00 in my option, no where near a 250.00 value. If they can mange another firmware update to address this issue like they did with the Bar 48, then I will revise my review.

These speakers look and sound very good. Once I figured out how to adjust the volume on them, it opened their versatility up a lot. You're not limited as much with the set factory volume. I decided on using some Sanus stands for their minimal appearance and tube stand size to accommodate the plug wire (many are smaller for just speaker wires). A nice addition to complete the Bar 48 system once I updated my bar with the new firmware and added these, all was good. A bit pricey for these two little speakers, but it's a bit of a specialty add-on so I understand it's probably a limited demand on these.
Looking forward to the price point and reviews on the Klipsch Bar 54 Atmos system soon to be released.

I added the Surround 3s to the Cinema 600 to complete a 5.1 set up. Overall, having true discreet surround channels beats simulated surround for effects hands down, especially in a less than perfect room. Having them pair wirelessly is a huge plus for those not able to run wires.

As with the sub, pairing was easy. Volume control of each speaker was less than intuitive due to the reliance on the led lights on the front of the soundbar, but doable. Once connected, however, I found the Surround 3 only ok sound quality wise and underwhelming given their price point of $250/pair. The cinama 600 soundbar gives a nice rich full sound with decent mids and highs. The Surround 3's don't quite match up to the quality of sound coming out the front Soundstage. Tonally they are somewhat flat and a bit hollow sounding, lacking any sort of depth with mediocre highs and midrange with zero bass. Generally proper surrounds are timbre matched to the front speakers. This is not quite the case here which is more of an issue with music vs. movies. I understand money went into each speaker having their own amplifier, but the sound coming from their single 3" cone I'd equate to maybe a $50 speakers at best.

Should you get the Surround 3s? If you can get them on sale, they definitely add an extra dimension over the simulated surround effects on the Cinama 600 soundbar. They make the content far more immersive and are suitable for the lighter duty of movie effects found in 5.1 content. In my opinion, they detract from music listening as they just don't match up well musically to the soundbar and shouldn't be used when listening to music.
