About 8 years ago i had bought a pretty decent midi controller (different company) in hopes I’d use it and make some cool riffs and beats. Nada. Played around a little. But it was confusing with all the buttons and switches so I never really had the time to learn what i was doing. Fast forward to now. Saw this mpk3 mini and figured maybe THIS is what I was looking for way back then. It was!! I immediately hooked it up to my ipad via the powered camera adapter plugged into the wall. No need to figure much out. Very plug and play friendly, at least for the ipad from what i can tell. Works great with garage band! The pads, keys are all velocity sensitive and expressive. Links up to the BPM which is cool. The keys and shell feel very solid for the price too! Haven’t hooked it up to my computer rig yet. But just the fact that i was able to hook it up to garage band and make most of a song in an hour makes it worth it!
I bought this for my 12 year old Son for Christmas. He is really into creating things on the computer. I thought he would enjoy this and he really does. There is a lot to learn about how to use this thing. He’s figuring it out and having a lot of fun creating his own music. I’m sure in a few years from now he’ll be creating some great masterpieces. I have five kids and they have all shown a lot of interest in trying to play on it too. We noticed that one of our favorite YouTube artists the Kiffness uses the same one. We did not realize that until after we purchased this. It’s awesome that it comes in many cool colors too. We got the gray one, and he loves it. I highly recommend this for anyone interested in creating their own music. You don’t have to be too musically inclined in order to figure it out. As long as you can play a few notes and make a beat your set.
My son NEEDED to get this because he said music was his passion and of course instead of trying to learn a real instrument he wanted the easy way out and said he could just produce beats by hooking this up to his macbook. yes, he used this for a couple of times until he realized that it actually takes some work and practice and now it's sitting on his desk getting all dusty. Might need to also purchase Adderall for this to get used but seems like a good piece of machine.
I've had this now for 3 days and it takes a while you just have to play with it and mess around to figure out what's what but it's not a one two three thing as stated you don't plug it in install it and then just play I'm using FL studios the one little gripe I have with it is that it was difficult to figure out how to map out the drum pads and timing can be a little bit off using the drum pads with just your fingers because their pressure sensitive along with the keys on the keyboard just play around with it until you get the swing of it and you know what you're doing it's a nice piece of equipment to have
Connected to Windows PC, enabled MIDI control in Ableton Live and we're off to the races. Nice and lightweight. The drum pad response feels pretty good, a slight bit less responsive than the Korg Pad Kontrol of old. One or two of the keyboard keys are slightly uneven.. so watch out for that.
Been enjoying the MPK Mini MK 3. I've had it plugged in ever since I got it and I'm constantly tapping away on it while doing other things. Setting it up and creating custom programs is easy and fairly cohesive. The only thing I have a problem with is the sensitivity curves which there doesn't seem to be any way to change. I feel like I have to pound the keys and the pads feel a bit like they are either 0 or 100. Otherwise I'm enjoying it.
