Hallo zusammen,

ich habe am 30. August 2017 den Artikel Rode NT-1A bestellt, da ich mich vom normalen Gaming-Headset verabschiedet habe und nun hochwertige Studiokopfhörer verwende. Da diese leider, nicht so wie Gaming-Headsets, mit einem dedizierten Mikrofon ausgestattet sind, musste eine Alternative her.

Ich wollte keine 0815-Lösung um beim spielen oder in Konferenzen zu klingen als würde ich ein Blechtelefon verwenden, deswegen sollte eine halbwegs professionelle Lösung her. Dabei fiel meine Wahl auf das Rode NT-1A, da der Lieferumfang alles enthält was man am Anfang braucht und der Name Rode ein großer im Bereich der Audioaufnahme darstellt.

Hier merkt man schon leicht, dass es sich nicht um ein normales Customer-Produkt handelt sondern sich eher am Business-Bereich orientiert. Der Karton wirkt sehr wertig und schwer (logisch bei diesem Inhalt) und der Innenraum wurde effizient verwendet.

Lieferumfang

Im Lieferumfang enthalten ist das Mikrofon selbst, der "Mundschutz" der, wie man auf dem Produktbild erkennen kann, vor das Mikrofon gestellt wird, ein Tischständer um das Mikrofon im Zweifelsfall auf den Tisch stellen zu können und ein nötiges Kabel mit einer Länge von zirka 3 Metern.

Inbetriebnahme

Die Inbetriebnahme setzt ein Audiointerface voraus, da ich gleichzeitg noch einen Kopfhörerverstärker brauche habe ich mich für "Focusrite Scarlett Solo (2G) USB-Audio-Interface mit Pro Tools" entschieden. Sobald ein externer Verstärker vorhanden ist, heißt es nur noch "Plug and Play". Unter Windows 10 werden sofort Treiber installiert, für das Audiointerface und für das Aufnahmegerät.

Klang

Der Klang ist schwierig zu bewerten als Konsument, aber Aufnahmen meiner eigenen Stimme und die Reaktion von bekannten die mich via Konferenzen und Konversationen hören durften waren erschrocken über den kristallklaren Sound des Mikrofons. Hintergrundgeräusche werden sehr gut gefiltert, desweiteren ist das Mikrofon trotzdem sehr senibel. Ich bin sehr zufrieden mit der Aufnahmequalität und werde dieses Setup zukünftlich für Twitch-Streams verwenden.

Ich bin begeistert von diesem Mikrofon und würde es jedem empfehlen, der entweder nur zum zocken/streamen seinen Gesprächspartner eine gute Qualität liefern möchte oder ambitionierten Sängern mit einem begrenzten Budget.

I spent hours looking for a good quality condenser microphone for my home Recording Studio and read many reviews, and of all the ones l viewd and the reviews l read, this Rode condenser microphone stood above all others and over the last 18 months l have used it, l am blown away with the results, but if you don't put the effort in and use breathing control, warm the vocal cords and vocalise daily, this microphone will tell you by the results, l have sometimes not done what I'm supposed to do before a recording and have been disappointed with the results, so have ended the session by deleting the songs l had recorded over 4hrs and had only myself to blame, put the work in and this incredible piece of studio equipment with help you all the way, it will not improve the quality of your voice, but will transfer to the interface what you have given it and if you work with the microphone, you will be pleased with the results. Superb quality microphone, very good price and a 10yr warranty, what else can say. Well done Rode.

I expected better, but...

Coming from using a yeti for the past couple of years I was very surprised by how much less top end it had, nothing an EQ wouldn't fix in any DAW or Sample editor but didn't expect such a change.

Noise wise vs the yeti, far better, the yeti has a hum on it and quite a bit of background noise, the Rode NT1-A still has some background noise but it's about 1/10th of what the yeti has.

If your buying this for skype / communication purposes, look else where, don't waste your money, get a yeti or use your webcam mic (logitech C920 will do the job fine for that).

If your going to use it for pod casts and social media videos (YT/FB/TW etc) which have music in the background then you wont need a perfectly quiet room to use it.

If you wish to use this to record vocals or instruments, you better be in a quiet room as it will pick up the fans on your computer, every key and mouse button you press, the sound of cars passing through a closed double glazed window and if you have a office chair that creaks it can often sound louder than the person that's infront of it...

Either way, you should be running things through a noise filter and an EQ, nothing any decent DAW or Sample Editing software can't handle.

WARNING
I bought a desk stand to mount this on, it picks up the slightest touch or rub of my table, every key press (music and computer keyboards) and the shock mount is all fine... I'm going to cut some foam and cut it to shape and stick it to the bottom of the stand, it worked for my yeti (needs to be about 3 inches thick). So def' consider buying the Rode ARM to mount it on, even though they are a pain to have around and cost more than the rest but at least you know it will be strong enough to hold and position the mic where you want it.

A great mic for the price

I bought this last year to do some home recording, along with the Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 sound card. Given the price, this has been a fantastic mic to use for both male & female vocal recording, and it's even impressed my other half who's quite nervous about hearing her recorded voice!

The clarity of recordings are excellent. It's not as high in quality as more expensive mics but given the price, it's an ideal unit for home recording. I've not used it outside of the home so can't comment on live use.

If you do get one of these, be aware that you'll need a suitable sound device/card (like the Focusrite above) to record with - one that supplies 48v Phantom Power to the microphone (you won't get much sound without this).

I’ve been using Rode microphones for a good few years now, and so I recently decided to invest in a new condenser microphone.

The NT1-A is a solid, well-built condenser microphone by one of the best audio companies in the world. I’ve been using it rigorously since I got it and it’s excelled time and time again. It provides crisp, clear vocals and instrument recordings.

The pack also comes with a shock mount with a built in pop filter, which ensures your recordings don’t pick up any undesirable external interference. The long professional audio cable that’s also included is excellent, too, and the dust cover keeps your mic in good condition between sessions.

As is the case with all condenser microphones, it requires phantom power; you can get this from most audio interfaces or other devices. This isn’t the sort of mic you would require to be portable and is most at home in a studio or office setting, so its phantom power requirement won’t hinder you. That being said, the microphone is still light enough to not weigh a ton if you need to move it, and the shock mount is pretty light too. When I’m at my desk I leave the mic in its shock mount whilst attached to my DS1 desktop stand, but the mic can easily be transferred to a different mic stand depending on the situation.

The 10 year warranty included with the mic shows how much effort Rode put into their craft; this microphone is a breeze to work with and lets me get solid results every time with whatever project I’m working on. The NT1-A is a great value, beautifully made condenser microphone that won’t let you down and is well worth your investment.

Great when working but a deeper dive reveals extreme fragility

I have been happily using my NT1A for just over a couple of years with great results and no issues. Then suddenly it just stopped working. It has been sitting in its shock mount in my home studio the whole time, never moved, never unplugged, just sitting there with its little protection cover on until I come to record my next masterpiece when I switch the phantom power on and go. Until one day recently it just didn't go.

I have switched cables - not that
I have switched channels - not that
I have tried different mics - they all work fine

The mic has definitely 'just stopped working' for no discernible reason. I've just retuned to my original amazon order page and apparently product support has been switched off after 2 years so I have zero recall.

A deeper dive into the issue reveals that this is far from uncommon. Many users report extreme fragility and sensitivity to issues such as temperature change.

You live and learn....my Shure condensers have proven bombproof. I am gutted though because I did love the mic but I won't buy another.

Fantastic kit for the price as this is really top quality, I have had many Mics in my time as a musician and this is amazing quality, you can pay up to £300 for this type of quality. You also get the spider and pop guard thrown in and even the heavy duty XLR cable too and there's plenty of it to move around the studio. The spider part is for avoiding Mic bumps in your precious recordings which can ruin your performance. Its also very adjustable in the spider you can move it around to get different effects and sound.

There is a nice DVD with this showing how to do these different effects by moving the Mic around in the spider or adjusting the pop up guard or using without it and standing in various places when singing. I'm over the moon with this purchase and extremely happy. If you register on line you get 10 years guarantee. Well done to Rode.

I use this as a studio mic for recording spoken word. I use FL Studio to give the mic a treatment to make it a little more isolated and studio sounding, but the mic itself is perfectly fine. Put headphones on, turn the gain up, and just listen to things happening throughout the house. I can hear my girlfriend walking across floorboards outside and coming into the room behind me through the mic, even though the headphones are blocking my hearing. It's like being psychic. LOL Definitely a good mic capable of picking up subtle sounds if you crank it. Recommended.

It's a teensy bit inaccurate for Rode to say the NT-1 kit is a 'complete vocal recording solution' because you need to supply 24 or 48 volts of phantom power to get the NT-1 to work. And for that you need a mixing desk or adapter with a phantom power option which the kit does not include.

That said, the NT-1 does exactly what it says on the tin, as you might expect of something from Australia. It perfectly, and with the least noise, works as a studio full-frequency Large Diaphragm Cardioid condenser microphone for the same money you'd pay for a pair of Shure SM-58s. And that's awesome.

Whatever you play or sing into it, it reproduces in your DAW. No bias, over-saturation, noise, it does the job at a terrific price. It's a game-changer and you should get one, as long as you have phantom power.
