This is the first lav mic I've ever had, so I'm not sure how it compares to others. But I do love how well it filters out wind noise. I usually use it outdoors and I don't worry too much about a little breeze. I use it even when I'm not recording speech just because it's the best microphone I have for windy conditions. I took it out for a test on a very windy day and compared it to a couple other microphones I have. Take a look at the video for the results.
This is side address mic, so be sure you're aware of which side the sound access hole is while you're placing it on the talent. It has great sound and nearly invisible. The mic does need bias current, so you'll need the pre-amp hooked up, which terminates in a male XLR. Be sure you have phantom power available to power the pre-amp so it can supply the needed bias voltage to the mic.
I have really cheap wired lavs, which i bought a long time ago, thinking i was so clever. Not so. Unless you're happy with a cheap lav to run to your consumer camcorder, and you're happy to have the sound off the camera mic, those cheapies are really a deceptive waste of money. If you have XLR inputs you're using, either on the camera or a mixer, this level of mic will give you very good sound. You'll probably mess up a lot more other things on your shoot before these mics become your biggest problem.
These are professional grade mics. They work great with the Canon XA10 and 25 and I assume with other XLRs. I'm in media and expect a lot from a mic and these delivered as I would expect them to under the Shure label. The only criticism is that it wasn't clear to me that they had clips and wind screens so I ordered some. They do have an excellent supply of both so don't spend the money. Also, unless you are in the wind, leave the windscreen off. It rubs too easily on the collar. Great mics and the price is right. There are cheaper ones that might work but these are industrial grade.
I am a full time videographer, I work in public television and new media. This is my go-to wired lav. Great for interviews and hosted material. Picks up clean. The variety of mounting equipment is helpful for a variety of different wardrobe situations. Well worth the money.

I bought four of these mics, and within a month of owning it the flimsy hardwired cable attached to the mic caught a short and blasts out an incredibly loud crackling noise. Very disappointed, doesn't seem like there's any way for an easy fix. Aside from that, they sound great, but they don't seem able to sustain normal use.
We are using this for a toddler monitor camera and we are amazed by the sensitivity in picking up soft baby talk and signs of trouble in the play area from far away. It turns out that a pro lavelier mic is perfect for this purpose because it's tiny and omnidirectional. Just remember you'll need a phantom power supply. Although "phantom" power supply sounds mysterious it's nothing more than a power supply that has an XLR input and output. With this setup you can have a long XLR mic cable without introducing line noise (if you use a regular mic with a phono/RCA cable the line would pick up a lot of noise at longer distances). The output of the phantom power supply can be converted from XLR to phono/RCA with a short converter cable. Get this mic if you need to pick up sounds in the distance.
You're not going to find a better lav mic than this unless you commit to $300-$400. I've produced and mixed for a national television show and I can say that I'm very happy with the quality of this microphone. Get yourself this and a Zoom H4N and you're off to the races. Also, you can get a simple xlr to usb adapter and use this for a pro laptop mic that doesn't show up on screen.
With the advent of high end DSLRs, just about everyone can make great looking videos. The trouble is most people overlook sound quality. When I look at great looking videos with bad sound, it completely distracts me.
I've made it a point to use all sorts of large diaphragm microphones to improve the audio in my videos, but those are much harder to hide in a shot. So, I decided to look for a Lavalier microphone that I could just mount on my collar, but a lot of the ones I tried didn't come close to full sized microphones. This one did.
In side by side tests between this tiny little wonder and four of my larger mics (Azden SGM 2X, Blue 8-Ball, AKG Perception 100, Zoom H4n), I had a hard time telling them apart. It's an omnidirectional microphone, so it doesn't have to point directly at the subject, but because it's so small, I can put it right next to my subject without it being noticed.
When it comes to mics, you don't want to cheap out. There are tons of cheap, wired lavs on the market, and you really can't get that much for less than $200. But this is a pretty passable lav mic for the price. It's far better than the Audio Technica $22 cheap lav mic that's praised on some blogs. The SM93 is suitable for a variety of situations. It's even useful to isolate speakers in noisy rooms. Don't be fooled by the omni pickup pattern. It's the proximity to the speakers mouth that makes all of the difference and lavs get you in closer than a boom. You just have to be careful about how you route the wire to limit noise. I give it four stars because of the decent quality for the price and not because of overall performance when compared to other better lav mics.
