1.0 de 5 estrellas Don't buy this.

I don't write reviews very often but felt like I needed to on this product. We bought our first one and it would shut off in the middle of playing discs. We have Hulu, Netflix and Amazon Prime. We couldn't play through an entire move or binge watch anything without it shutting off through one or two episodes. Because we thought Sony was a fairly sturdy product we thought it had to be a fluke. Amazon did their thing (love them) and sent a replacement device. Low and behold it did the EXACT same thing. Did we check the WiFi? Yes. Troubleshoot? Yes. Call Hulu and Netflix to make sure it wasn't their app? Yes. Did everything we were supposed to do. Knew I should have stuck with Samsung. Always been a Samsung gal. Thank you Amazon for fixing this for us. We have our Samsung surround now and it's amazing!

honestly I didn't bother unpacking the system so I have no idea what it sounds like. I've dealt with the Sony specific wire plugs before, but unlike any other Sony system I've owned over the years, Sony has now decided to hardwire the wires directly to the speakers. Need a longer length speaker wire? nope not gonna happen. need to shorten the speaker wire? nope not gonna happen. My last 2 Sony systems were a simple swap out, old for new with my pre-existing and hidden room wiring. Back in the box it goes, I'm not about to start hacking wires. so bummed out. boooo to Sony

5.0 de 5 estrellas Simplicity is named Bravia Sync
Reseñado en los Estados Unidos el 9 de noviembre de 2014

Replaced a very nice Yamaha surround system, because I could never get the remotes working well enough for my wife.

We have a Sony KDL65W850A, and I had a Samsung Blu-ray player, with a Yamaha receiver. I could manage getting everything powered up and running, and I had even gotten a Logitech Harmony 650 all configured. But, naturally, when my wife would try to use it, she wouldn't wait quite long enough for everything to get the IR signal to power up, or down, or whatever, and something would get out of sync. So, I was forever getting called in to "fix it". When I discovered the "Bravia Sync" feature our TV had, I began researching other options.

I found this, and really love it. It's not as beefy as my old Yamaha, but it does the job fine for our TV room (the sub is plenty loud). Also, the wires are just barely long enough (even the front ones, not sure what Sony is considering a "normal" wiring arrangement?). They seem thin, but I guess the speakers aren't drawing that much.

As for sound quality, I don't notice any difference from my old surround system (naturally, completely different than the TV speakers).

The Blu-Ray player itself seems fine. I only have a few, but "Planet Earth" looks as beautiful as ever (especially on this TV, spectacular colors and contrast).

As for the main reason I bought it: YES, it has passed the wife test! Everything turns on and off together. It even works fine with the simple TV remote (the Sony TV comes with a "simple" bluetooth remote, and a "regular" IR remote - sort of a hers/his thing, I guess ;). I only use the blu-ray remote if I want to listen to my phone thru bluetooth, without turning on the TV, otherwise the TV remotes can control everything (even all the menus).

Now, if I could just get a simple, reliable, Google TV client for our HDHomeRun Prime so she can watch Bravo Housewives....

1.0 de 5 estrellas Worst Product In Years
Reseñado en los Estados Unidos el 12 de agosto de 2017

Total garbage. Does not communicate with other Sony products as it claims (it does, but it constantly disconnects) it is NOT loud enough (no power at all) and the sound quality is not good at all. FINALLY, and most importantly, it only lasts a few months ... just past the warranty period, then it dies.

This was my SECOND ONE ... and I learned my lesson as it was the worst AND VERY VERY LAST SONY Product I will ever buy. There are WAY too many options out there now for electronics and the SONY brand has become nothing but a gaming company ... they don't make quality components at all any more.

2.0 de 5 estrellas Short life span, poor customer service

I'm very disappointed with Sony. I had another Sony Home Theater system with a 5-disc changer that lasted 11 years, until a bad lightning strike hit the house, so I bought this one as a replacement. They don't make multi-disc units anymore.
After 2 1/2 years, the amplifier died. It started flashing a Push Power/Protect message. I followed reset directions, didn't work. Called Sony tech; they walked me through the same reset routine. No power. They gave me the number for the repair service, where I found that it would cost $118/labor, plus parts, plus $28/shipping each way.
When I remarked that the unit had not had much use, and was not very old, the tech told me that the system is powered on in standby mode, even when turned off, suggesting, I guess, that one should unplug when not in use. I said that requirement to UNPLUG when not in use should be posted in BOLD letters on every unit, if they are so susceptible to quick death from being plugged in, and he repeated how it is not good for it to be plugged in.
I think I'm done with Sony. That's $350 I'll never see again.

1.0 de 5 estrellas Much better systems available
Reseñado en los Estados Unidos el 9 de septiembre de 2017

Much better systems available. I'm rating it one star after owning it for over a year for a couple of reasons. First, when turning it on along with the television, the audio takes 30-45 seconds to turn on. This has happened from day one. I finally had enough aggravation after missing some important information. Apparently there is a fix for this issue in the settings of the unit but I can't get into the settings to make the change. Secondly, when contacting Sony Support via chat, it was a complete joke. Treated like I was an idiot and asked me if the unit was plugged in! Then when calling them, they asked for all of my information and then tried to troubleshoot my television when the problem is with the home theater system. Once getting that straightened out, they told me they couldn't help me because the unit is over one year old. I guess when the warranty runs out, so does any kind of support. I wasted nearly two hours for no help. Never again will I buy a Sony product.

5.0 de 5 estrellas Awesome 3D Home Theater in a box for the price.
Reseñado en los Estados Unidos el 26 de agosto de 2015

I have only had this a few days, but it is great. I have access to tons of streaming apps, beyond the big names. But most impressive is the fact I can turn on 3d conversion for discs that are 2d. Don't expect it to be jumping out of the screen, but it does look nice to see more depth in the movies. I already had another 3d Bluray-HT system from Sony. But have a 3d projector that I was connecting that one to and needed this one for my main 3d tv.

My only complaint and I am sure as I research it more will find out the reason... Is that 3d conversion for DVD's seems to have a jitter or shaking in the video (more as you increase the 3d effect). Bluray discs do not have this issue, so I am not sure if it is a combination of the system upconverting to HD + 3d conversion being too much or if there is a setting I just need to tweak. If I discover the answer I will post that.

**** Update on DVD 2d-3d conversion jitter ****
I found the answer to the problem. under Screen Settings on the Sony player, Go to Output Video Resolution. By default it is set to Auto, change it to either 720P or if your TV is capable 1080P. The problem is that the DVD is not natively 1080P and so when converted to 3d, it goes to 1080i. If you force the 1080p or 720p it will stay that way. though I did have a few times on some previews or menus that it changed to 1080i but the movie itself stayed in 1080p and so no jitter. I had to make no setting changes to my TV. I have a Vizio 42" Passive 3D TV.

5.0 de 5 estrellas Recommended!!!!

I purchased this Home Theater System for my Sony Bravia, and I could not be happier.
The HDMI linking functionality allows you to control TV and surround sound system with one remote. The speakers are easy to set up and configure for optimal sound experience. As far as installation, everything comes in the pack and is pre-wired with colored plugs so you know where everything goes.
The one feature that I like the most about this system is the ability to connect my iPhone via Bluetooth, which allows me to listen to my music while playing Xbox or simply while hanging out. Also, I love to be able to sync my mobile youtube account with the device and stream videos.
This system has a lot of power, if I keep the volume at 50% you can hear it from across the street!
I do not really play many DVDs so I can'd say whether it is a good DVD player or not.
For this price and Sony quality, I think you cannot go wrong with this Home Theater.
In a nutshell:
Pros
- A lot of power
- Easy to set up
- Many features
- Bluthooth
Cons
- None that I can think of

1.0 de 5 estrellas Warning, speakers are hardwired, can not extend the wires!
Reseñado en los Estados Unidos el 5 de mayo de 2017
Compra verificada
The speakers are hardwired to 22ga wire, meaning if you have an odd-shaped room, you won't have enough wire, and the only way to fix it is cut off the wires and solder on new ones. I removed all of the factory wires and replaced them with 14ga wire. The fact they were 22ga to begin with is pretty pathetic. I wouldn't use any less than 18ga for a setup with this kind of wattage. Further, there is no HDMI input, so you can't pass-through HDMI to get the audio from it. You can only input 5.1 audio through the Optical cable. Sitting here listening to high-quality music files, the volume is loud enough, but the bass just barely comes through my seat, and the sub is right behind the couch! I also hear some very small distortion, probably from the speakers being a cheap 6-ohm design. If you are on a super tight budget like I was, this system is perfect. But if your ears are used to a good system, like in your car, haha, then this might be too cheap.

3.0 de 5 estrellas Great for blu-rays, but not for DVDs.
Reseñado en los Estados Unidos el 19 de septiembre de 2017

I bought this system to replace a Panasonic surround sound dvd unit that I had been using for years that finally died on me. When it works it works beautifully. The bluetooth is easy to use. Blu-rays play excellently. Streaming on it though on something like Netflix is a bit subpar. It takes a full minute and sometimes longer for a movie/tv show to start and buffer to full HD.

The speaker wires were a bit shorter than on my old system so I had to find new spots for the speakers. Although both this and my old Panasonic are both 1,000w Sony's idea of their max volume is different than Panasonic's. This Sony system doesn't go as loud as my old Panasonic.

DVD performance is seriously hit or miss. The smallest blemish on a disc and the system will act like it's serious damage and wig out. Yet when I put the same disc in my PS4 it plays perfectly. Also on some dvds while in the middle of watching the system will suddenly crash and do a hard restart. This was a particularly bad issue with all of my Star Trek dvds (DS9 and Voyager) and some of my Stargate SG-1 dvds. I ended up having to watch them on my PS4. I have no idea what causes it and you would think Sony would have addressed it by now.

This is a great system if you are only going to use it for blu-rays. I wouldn't recommend it if you also plan to watch DVDs on it. I'm sorry to say my experience with this deck has kind of soured me on Sony surround systems so I doubt I will be buying another one.
