I bought this Tv from amazon on Aug. 20, 2020. On Oct. 5, the sound completely went dead. I did a factory reset, the sound came back but cut off again 10 minutes into watching Netflix. This has happened on all the input sources I have tried it on. The sound will cut off every 10 minutes, you will have to then unplug the tv, wait 2 minutes and turn it on again. 10 minutes in, the sound will cut off again. You would have to do this at least 5 times to watch one movie. Amazon told me they are not responsible and said that they will not help. I am trying to get hold of TCL Support. Do not buy this tv and do not buy it from Amazon. You are on your own, once the tv is in your hands.
This is my second TCL TV (I purchased a 55" series 5 model about 2 years ago and it's still kicking) and I have to say the quality on these things is fantastic for the price! I'm not the pickiest TV shopper, but I needed a 4k TV with HDR support for the PS5 this fall. Needless to say this thing is a huge upgrade from the 32" Vizio TV it was replacing.
While yes, this doesn't have all the bells and whistles of a more expensive TV (HDMI 2.1 ports in particular) this will more than get the job done. To be honest, I really doubt many games will even take advantage of those features so as far as my money is concerned this TV is a great buy for someone looking for amazing image quality at a low price.
The only downside to the particular unit I received is a dim backlight in the four corners which is only really noticeable when white (or really light) content is on the screen. Since we're in the middle of a pandemic I'm not gonna be picky about getting an exchange for it because it really isn't noticeable 99% of the time.
Even if you don't play games and are only using this TV for streaming content like Netflix, Hulu, Disney + etc. it's more than worth it. The Roku interface is so snappy and it's just overall such a joy to use this thing.
I bought this over the new Vizio M series even though that has HDMI 2.1 spec but a 60fps native resolution. When I first set this TV up, the colors were washed out and I like the saturated colors. I followed TCL "6-Series" 2019 Settings over at rting.com and adjusted the settings more on my viewing preferences.
Personally, I set the color all the way to '100' and turned off all Motion Smoothing settings in the Movie mode. Otherwise, the tv is nice and the design is bezel-less with a silver / 'gun-metal' frame finish.
The remote that is included is only IR and is NOT the RF enhanced voice remote. I have picked up the Roku enhanced voice remote from Amazon for about $20+tax to go with this TV setup will update this once the remote is delivered.
Update: I got the Roku enhanced remote and paired it with the TV. No Issues and works great. No longer have to point the remote in the direction of the TV. In the meantime, the rtings.com review of the TCL 5 series QLED is also out for anyone curious about the full review. I still have my color settings to max. For me, this TV was a nice purchase.
The listing in the search for this TV stated that it has a refresh rate of 120 hertz. That's not true. This is a 4K 60hz TV with HDMI 2.0, so if you're looking at this for next-gen consoles, know that you won't be getting the most out of the console with this TV.
I purchased "NEW" and the box arrived looking like it had been open and taped back closed several times. Even had gashes in it. I finally setup the TV (took about 3 times with software glitch updating) then I see two big burn marks in the middle of the TV).
What a waste of time. Can't believe they'd ship something "new" out in that state. No shame.
I bought this tv to replace my old Vizo 1080p tv my toddler broke. I purchased the 50-inch version.
This is a very good tv for the price. The picture quality is great. The sound from the tv is better than I expected. I rarely turn the volume up past 20 percent. I rarely ever turn on my soundbar. I can pause live TV for 1.5 hours with the installation of a 16 gig thumb drive.
I only have two real complaints about this product. The tv randomly reboots and, the remote isn't a Bluetooth remote similar to the remotes that come with the Roku streaming players.
I have not figured out why my TV randomly reboots. The tv reboots at most about twice a day. But I have gone a few days without noticing it. The cause of the reboots is not system updates.
The remote is a minor annoyance. You have to aim the remote at the tv to perform any function. But you can use your phone or your Alexa device to control your tv as well. You can turn on or off the tv, change inputs, control the volume using your Alexa device.
If I ever resolve the random reboot issue, I'd give this TV 5 stars. There a few solutions I have not had time to try. I am hoping that I can resolve this issue soon.
