For a new system, I was expecting the typical DTS variants, DOLBY whatever etc, but Yamaha doesn't have this. It has NEO 6, which processes in a similar way. I believe it's less accurate, but it does sound good where it should. I would have liked to have known this ahead of time, but after reading up on it and using it a while I'm OK with it. My fault for assuming the features.
I had to spend some time getting to know this Yamaha and at first it's not very intuitive, but it does have some pretty useful functionality once you get give it a quick read. I did have to spend some time using the EQ to kill some of the mids, as they are very bright. The sub woofer is tight but can't hang for the long "demon bass" in movies or any album by CREED lol. I put it about half way and use the bass boost button when necessary. Works well but no one is going to call the cops on you because they can feel the bass next door, but it's adequate.
I did like the supplied mic to auto tune the room. Nice feature and seemed to do a good job.
I'm replacing a cheap Pioneer 5.1 system from the big box store that lasted 6 years and sounded great. The speakers were half the size but weighed more than these which is why I loved it. But it's finally wearing out. I run my PC, a cable box and built in apps on my Vizio TV and now everything can go through HDMI and optical from the TV to finally give me 5.1 form built in TV apps. The ARC function also works well with my older Vizio TV. I appreciated being able to rename the inputs and skip ones I don't use. Bluetooth works fine with my S8.
The build quality of the speakers isn't great. The speakers are cheap, light and plastic. They sound very bright because of this. The EQ can help squash that a bit, but these won't sound anything like a Bose speaker for example. The sub is better. It's powered and allows for dialing it in.
Cranked up watching a couple movies, it sounded great. Music was good, but you're not turning it up to 11. More like 7 or 8 before things degrade. If you're OK with entry level sound and like the convenience and simplicity, this works.
This amplifier tuner works and sounds great as it should but this isn't my first Yamaha. I feel it should come with better speaker. The 4 smaller speakers are pretty light and the sound will break up when you turn the volume up. Normally Yamaha comes with way better speakers. The sub work excellent its just the other speakers. They sound great at low to mid volume but can't handle much higher volumes. I'm planning on switching them to bose when I find the right deal. The amp can run the and the sound quality it puts out is good just isn't matched to the amp properly.
Pros This system is definitely value for money. I mean a Yamaha with full features amp (bluetooth, HDMI inputs etc.) with 5.1 speakers for $475, is a good deal. Easy installation Easy calibration Good option if you want to move a step up from TV speakers or an average soundbar
Cons Dont expect high performance and crystal clear sounds. In that case, it's not even close to high end systems. The pop up menu is so outdated Equalizer pre-settings aren't good
Great product which brings full value to the money. Setup - Easy AVR : Great with plenty of options to connect to TV, Bluetooth, OFC, USB, HDMI...etc Sound : Plenty of sound options to customize from. Love this Overall a great product for an amazing sound quality.
Cons : The speakers (not the subwoofer) are really light weight and the fabric cover looks cheap and not made with a good quality. They look to let the dust seep in which I believe would shorten the life of these speakers.
It could just be the space I am in but seems its not too too powerful on the base but the sound is good. The make up for it would be the receiver that comes with it. Its nice to have multi ports to plug into for all your needs.
