I bought this for a home theatre room for use with a projector. The HDMI output stopped working in less than 6 months and Yamaha won't get back to me on what to do with repairing or replacing it. Save your money and buy another manufacturer.
Boy did I not do proper research. The speakers are horrible and have been thrown out and replaced with quality 2 way speakers. The sub is ok but not better than the one I had so I installed it with a soundbar on the bedroom tv. The amplifier is iffy but I have to salvage something from this buy. Will certainly upgrade it in a year or so to a better amp. Have to turn it all the way up to 50 just to start hearing it. After that can’t go much higher or it starts to distort.
You have to play with the different sound variations to get what you what, but that's exactly what this allows you to do. I have one setting for my action game and another for my movies. And they stay programmed.
The only negative I have on this is that the wire wasn't long enough. I don't have the largest living room, but they at least supply a fair amount of wire. I wish the speakers were bluetooth, but I guess it makes for easier set up. I'm a metal head. I like being able to hear every beat and sound that the artist creates. And at maybe halfway up and the bass maybe halfway up, I get all that and then some.
I got sick of spending $50-$100 for a sound bar or something like that that doesn't give me what I want. So I paid more and got one of the best deals ever.. . . Loving my surround sound!
Like most audio receivers, there's some wonkiness to get it working with various implementations of HDMI ARC. For me, I had to spend a few hours tweaking ARC settings on my LG TV and completely disable it on my Blu Ray player in order to get things to work as expected. Sound quality is okay but nothing to write home about at the price point.
Speakers were smaller than expected but put out good sound. Installed easily, the speaker wire was pretty cheap would recommend buying some nicer wire especially if you are going to run it behind the wall. My receiver makes a loud click when turning the on and off but seems “normal”.
The best sound system for the price..set was straightforward no suprises..and the sound quality was out of this world..You would think your in the theater..hearing what I have missing...The system is packaged very well and no damage to the box was evident...I highly recommend this product
Liked the ease of connecting four video sources via HDMI to my aging TV. It delivers both picture and sound in proper format (to include 3D). You need to gain familiarity with the remote functions through some trial and error as the explanations are fairly basic. Have only had it a few weeks now, but so far so good!
Pros This system is definitely value for money. I mean a Yamaha with full features amp (bluetooth, HDMI inputs etc.) with 5.1 speakers for $475, is a good deal. Easy installation Easy calibration Good option if you want to move a step up from TV speakers or an average soundbar
Cons Dont expect high performance and crystal clear sounds. In that case, it's not even close to high end systems. The pop up menu is so outdated Equalizer pre-settings aren't good
Had this thing for 2 months and shorted out a board on my tv causing it to lose power. Would’ve been a third time but repairman disconnected it before doing any damage. First and last time I buy Yamaha.
