I'm totally happy with this concertina for the price I paid. It's a quality instrument ideal for the beginner or the seasoned player not looking to spend a fortune. I have played many different brands of accordion and concertina's and you can not beat the value that you get from Hohner. I haven't experienced any problems with the bellows or the reeds, everything works as it should.
So far so good! I received my accordion on time and I play it several days a week. The buttons don’t stick and the hand-operated bellows work just fine. And it has a very nice sound, too. The only drawback is that it only plays in the Key of C Major and G Major. You’ll need to transpose other keys to the key of C and G with this concertina. I do it all the time with my single key diatonic harmonicas. If you want to play the full chromatic scale in all keys, you’ll need to purchase a 30 plus button concertina. This concertina is made in China, but no pretense is made about that. It’s written on the box in big bold letters and on the instrument itself. If the instrument begins to falter, I make an addendum to my review. But, so far so good! Just an update, as of 12/17/16 the concertina is still going strong with regular weekly playing.
I can play a number of tunes on the harmonica and that is the extent of my musical ability. That skill was learned on numerous backpacking trips over the years. I ordered up the D40 Concertina and Mel Bay's book. I received the concertina a couple weeks before the book. I managed to work out the details of Red River Valley in the first couple hours I had it. Couldn't play well at that time (still can't) but had the notes figured out. Once I got the book, it was a little easier to learn a new song.
This thing is just fun to sit down with for an hour or so in the evening and play the few songs I know and maybe work on a new one.
I highly reccommend this instrument for anybody that has an interest in this type of thing.
I absolutely love this concertina and relieved that I have yet to experience any of the defects that other reviewers encountered. None of the keys have stuck and it sounds great! I definitely think it's worth the price, in fact I'm ecstatic that I was able to find a good quality concertina for this low of price, especially as an amateur and experimenter.
I purchased my Hohner 20 Key Concertina this summer from Amazon and it was just as fun as I had hoped. I could play recognizable songs within a week and I now have a repertoire of about 40 songs. It is a wonderful party instrument.
