I am doing this review with the microphone is included as well as the software. I am able to speak freely, and was able to do the install in about 15 minutes. There was was false snag that wasn't the software's problem, but once the audio card by real tech. There was apparently a problem with the drivers that I had and the program crashed my computer. I had to reboot, whereas after reboot. I found out upon doing a Google search, that this was a common problem with HP's and built-in audio cards for real tech HD if you go to the real tech website you can download the updated drivers and that is fine. One thing I have noticed I have a four core processor, which it would be a very fast, however, the software takes about seconds before I see the words when typing. In this review I have found no problems posting the information that could on this page. I have not found errors punctuation is optional. So you can turn it off or on or use of punctuation word and it will put in place.

I've only done two trainings for the software, and so far it seems to do very well. When using this software. It's kind of like you're having a conversation or during a newscast. The voice has to be clear and precise, and the program appears to learn very quickly. As you can see by my review. There is little or no errors and this was after doing a review. When the program was only three days old. I would highly recommend this for any XP Pro user. It is not Vista friendly even though the software says it is compatible. There apparently is a learning curve with Vista. So therefore it is not recommended. It does say however, it is compatible with Windows 7. It does not take long for it to learn larger words and adapt to what you're saying such as informative, litigation, where normally and other software simple words like this would've come up with errors. I would say that I am impressed with the software. I wish that it would type out a little bit faster than the screens I would have time to know whether I've said the right word, and it will come out correctly. However with my processor being very fast,it just in time is minimal to see anywhere from 1/10 of a second to 3 seconds depending on how fast I talk. It is also noticed to make sure that you take breaks in the middle dictating a sentence.

For being a reasonably older version. It appears to work very well, and any errors on the screen are usually due to be not pronouncing the word correctly,or heavy pauses. For basic usage and overall office use. I found myself making less errors speaking that I would if I was typing the words. I am not a great speller, so therefore, I find punctuations words, and sentences tend to make more sense when I am speaking as opposed to typing. Thank you for reading my review.

I purchased this software for personal reasons -- mainly to be in the task of transcribing my handwritten journals into a typed format.Typing my journals by hand a cumbersome and time-consuming task and after two years I had only managed to transcribe 2 and a half of my 18 journals. Needless to say if I had continued by hand I would have been facing almost 2 decades of transcribing. I received Dragon Naturally Speaking on Monday and by Wednesday evening had managed to completely dictate an entire journal accurately.

This program is a godsend.

However, it takes a lot of patience to get used to the learning curve, not only using the program but also for the program to learn you. I did a quick easy tutorials and tried jumping right way into my task and I encountered a lot of "speed bumps" along the way. I found it helpful to go back and do some more of the trainings within Accuracy module.

It takes some getting used to; particularly adjusting your speech to make yourself heard, and also speaking in dictation (giving commands for punctuation, or instance.) I found this program to become an invaluable part of my computer usage, and I found it to be a wonderful amenity to my everyday interactions with the Internet (like dictating this review, for instance!) I am glad to have discovered something that has a purpose beyond my initial reason for using it and has found a way to become a staple -- almost a necessity -- such as a mouse, or keyboard!

For any person considering this program, whether for enjoyment or for personal or professional reasons, it takes patience to adjust yourself to this new technology that at one point seems science fiction. I find it best as though I am telling a story to a small child has a better helps me to pace myself and for the program to better understand what I am saying and in what context the words are being said.

I wanted to try the Dragon Standard because when I type my mind wanders and I start loosing my train of thought or get off subject. It works good for me, I don't use all the punctuations and the other aids that you can set up in this program, I just use the basic dictation then punctuate as I proof read and make minor adjustments. This program fits the bill.

When I read through the installation and set up I got worried that it would be complicated. It was not. I used the quick install, I read through the short voice recognition exercises ( which is critical for successful results) and that was it, simple and clean. I am not a computer wiz but it installed easily and worked great.

The important part is making sure your mic is set up in front of your mouth properly. To use the program just open the program, turn on the mic, open up a microsoft page, put the headset that came with the program on, I set up the mic into position then begin a few short test sentences. I move the mic up and down after each sentence until I find the right position whereby it catches all my words accurately, then I am good to go.

To start a new paragraph I just hit enter, I keep it simple and it works just fine.

For the price , simplicity and convenience it worth buying.

Faster than typing corrections and formatting can be annoying

I originally purchased this product and installed it on a laptop running Windows XP. I have since upgraded to Windows 7 and had to upgrade to Dragon 10.1 which seems a little slower on Windows 7. I did not have any trouble with installation and was immediately able to start using the software.

I am a college student taking upper and graduate level classes and purchased this software to save time when working on lengthy assignments and papers. I am not proficient at typing and this software saves me lots of time. Although you have to be sure to spell check and proof read for dictation errors. I use the formatting commands and have found that it is still necessary to use the mouse and keyboard making corrections can cost time.

I purchased the software on sale for $40 and would definitely recommend it to others. The reduced use of the keyboard stops hand/wrist discomfort that comes from typing for long periods of time.

Great Value, But the Novelty May Be Wearing Off

I'll admit that I thought I was going to use this product much more than I actually have, but for the money, this product delivers as promised. I have found it to do a better than average job in capturing what I am saying (and I haven't even completed all the setup), though sometimes it gets a little behind which causes me to stunt my speech a bit. Another thing I really like is it seems to work with just about any program I use that involves typing. In fact, I bet I could be using it right now. I believe the product description states it only works with a few programs like Word and Outlook. But I have used it for my blog.

If you really get tired of typing and want to give this a try, I highly recommend it. But if you are already an accomplished typist, you may find that you make fewer mistakes doing it yourself because you are going to end up having to reread what you said.

First, let me say that I gave this four stars instead of five, not because there's anything wrong with the software, but because unlike some of the others on here I have never used earlier versions and therefore had nothing to weigh my current experience against. Also, I'll admit right up front that I bought this earlier version simply because I didn't want to spend what they're asking for the newest version without having tried the software first, and having no previous expectations, versus 10 was just as good as 11 as far as I was concerned.

With that said, I really enjoy this product. In fact, this review was written using the software with very minimal corrections needed. For an individual like myself who suffers from Muscular Dystrophy, this product makes typing much less of a chore, allowing me to keep up with my writing much more easily without falling behind.

A word to the wise: do all of the training that you can stand to do with the software, tedious though it can be. It really makes a difference in the performance when you begin to really dictate.

I had an earlier version of NaturallySpeaking and had to go to 10.1 when I upgraded my computer to Windows 7. I actually bought version 10.0 and then went online to Dragon and downloaded version 10.1. This got me out of the deal a lot cheaper (Amazon to the rescue!)

I can see a big difference in the performance of this new version and I really like it. I would recommend it to most everyone, especially if you have any inclination to do a lot of writing. I find that being able to lean back and think about what I want to say is so much better than trying to concentrate on that stupid keyboard.

Of course like anything there is a learning curve but I don't think it's all that bad and it has a big payback, especially if you are a search and destroy kind of typist.

I had purchased an earlier version of this Dragon several years ago. Even after spending a lot of time trying to train the program, I found that it did not work well enough to be usable. But I decided to take the plunge again, and I am happy that I did. Speaking Naturally 10 is impressive. With a minimal amount of setup, the program does a great job at accurately capturing what I say. Sure, it makes a few errors on more unusual words, but they have made the correction process so easy that fixing the mistake hardly takes any effort at all.

I find that I use it for creating rough drafts, and then go back to edit them the old fashioned way. The program has an excellent capability for editing, and I can certainly see that if typing were not possible (for health or some other reason), I could learn to do the entire job without a keyboard. But right now the hybrid approach seems to work best for me. However, I have a feeling that, over time, I will use voice editing more and more, and go to the keyboard less and less.

I was quite impressed with the program's ability to handle long phrases, and complete sentences. So you can dictate in a way that is most comfortable for you. If you decide you don't like what you just said, you simply say "Scratch That" and you get to say it again. This is a lot easier than deleting whole sentences with the keyboard or mouse after you decide to put the phrase a different way. If you want to search the document for a certain word - for example: Amazon, you simply say: Select Amazon and you find yourself with the word Amazon selected. I found this much easier that using the Edit Find commands.

You can also use voice commands to interact with the application. I spent a little time trying to use it to navigate around a web site, and found it more cumbersome that using the keyboard. But again, if circumstances are such that a keyboard is not feasible, then I believe the voice command approach would also be workable with a little practice.

Another cool thing is how the dictation works even in the presence of background noise. I have a noisy airconditioner right behind my desk, and yet I do not notice any degradation in the recognition quality when the air conditioner is turned on.

If you have ever been intrigued with voice recognition, now is the time to jump in and give this program a try.

The other text-to-speech programs I have tried are absolutely terrible. I decided to try this one when my co-worker recommended it. It is definitely the best out there. As with all text-to-speech software, it does confuse certain words (fax/facts, in/and, etc.) but it gives you an opportunity to train it to differentiate between words that sound alike. It has several extra training exercises you can do to have it learn your voice better. It took a couple months, but I'd say it has become about 97% accurate. It saves my hands a lot of typing. You just have to make sure you proofread because unlike the typos you make in Microsoft word that will be underlined in red and easy to correct, this software doesn't spell words wrong. It just may insert the wrong word. You don't want to look like an idiot misusing common words in some important memo(there,their,they're). So, expect to give your hands a rest and improve your proofreading skills.

Definitely worth purchasing.

Finally installed the software on my computer. I am currently using it right now, no typing just reading. Installing the program was a little tricky but I got it done. If I can do it anyone can do it. It's an excellent program but takes some getting used to . The most important thing is training your voice, you have to learn the vocabulary and be patient. Overall excellent program but if you have a certain computer or older model check there website to make sure the software is compatible. The only question I have is are we supposed to leave the CD in the computer for it to remain working , because when I took it out I had to complete the download all over and it takes a considerable amount of time. Much longer than the instructions tell you but considering what it can do once properly installed. It's worth it!
