I had it only 3 weeks and this happened today. Very disappointed. Imagine how dangerous it could’ve been if I wasn’t inside the house!!!!!!!!! (Please note the amplifier wasn’t on a plastic box I put it down from the actual shelf when it started to smoke.) I will contact amazon for a refund.
This looked like the perfect amp to play our phone through our in-ceiling speakers. I hooked up the speaker wires to our in-ceiling speakers, plugged in the unit and connected my iPhone 3 Pro to the amp via bluetooth. All worked fine for about 3-4 minutes, then it stopped working. The blue LEDs stopped tracking the sound waves and I couldn't get sound from bluetooth or with a USB memory stick. Also noticed that the unit got very hot. Amazon was excellent, they arranged to send us a replacement and didn't even require us to return the original unit (after we explained the efforts to make it work). The second unit arrived one day later (again, kudo's to Amazon). Hooked it up, plugged it in and connected the iPhone via bluetooth. Same routine as above ... worked for a few minutes then - again - stopped working. This time at the advise of Amazon, we contacted Pyle (the manufacturer) customer support. They corresponded via email (despite my requesting a phone chat) and made a few basic suggestions (all of which we had already done). While waiting for Pyle to respond to my last email, our kids came over dinner. with their added tech savvy, we tried hooking it up again, and although the bluetooth connected, no sound came out to the speakers, even after we double checked all the connections. And here's the kicker, we left the unit plugged in, but with no bluetooth or any other input going to the amp. We sat down for dinner and our granddaughter said something smelled funny. We got up to see smoke rising from the top / rear of the unit. We immediately unplugged the unit. It was extremely hot, too hot to touch and the burning plastic or rubber foul smelling smoke filled the A/V cupboard, which still smells two days later. Bottom line, not only has two of these units failed to work, but they are clearly a fire hazard. Very disappointed as this seemed like the perfect unit to play music throughout the speakers in our house.
Bought this little amp expecting something ok. Instead i got a loud pop noise and a burning smell from it after 10 minutes of playing. Kept playing but did not feel like risking a fire. Would not recommend.
This amp is of very poor quality; as soon as I plugged in my speakers and turned it on, I could hear a constant hissing from the speakers. The knobs are flimsy and came easily, and it was hard to put them back on properly. The knobs also didn’t seem to line up properly to the notches. I returned it for a refund and got something else instead.
