Cuando estuve en busca de unir un cuarto para grabar y otro de control, las posibilidades eran comprar un snake o mandar a hacer uno. Si lo compras sale muy caro y si lo mandas hacer sale en más de 20,000 pesos mexicanos. Cuando ví este producto no lo dudé ya que es justo lo que buscaba y por un precio razonable, el único pero que le pongo es que sí colorea la señal, pero por el precio es muy recomendable.

WARNING: LONG READ. Good equipment is not cheap. Even today's miraculous lower budget clones of masterpieces (like Warm Audio or Golden Age) equipment are not cheap. They run from $500 to $1200. So if you have one of these puppies you do not want it collecting dust because it is paired to one thing. You want to put your equipment to be used as much as possible to get your money's worth. I have a pair of acoustic piano mics running through a pair of Hardy M-1 preamps into a NEVE compressor. The piano recordings are superb. But I found myself not using the M-1 preamps or the NEVE compressor for anything else. That's $4000 worth of equipment laying idle unless I was recording acoustic piano. To put a new, good compressor on my favorite microphone used for vocals and drums would mean paying out at least another $700 if not $1500. So I vowed to, once and for all, figure out how patchbays worked so that I could pair any microphone to any Mic pre and my NEVE compressor (or any compressor). So I ventured I could pay $60 for an ART XLR patch bay and save myself hundreds of dollars if not thousands I would have spent on a second compressor.

This is my tale of hard earned wisdom.

I received the ART XLR patchbay and got to work. My first discovery was that the plugs aren't reversible so the ART XLR patchbay is is really only good for going from your mics to the inputs of your mic pres. Let me explain. My understanding is that you use XLR patch bays almost exclusively for mics, mic pres, compressors and any other device on the mic input chain. The reason for this is because a 1/4 inch TRS can short the preamps because of the way it connects while being pulled in and out of a patch bay. All three pins of a mic and mic pre must connect at exactly the same time or equipment can be damaged or ruined because of phantom power. The ART XLR patchbay device has a male XLR on the front and a female XLR on the back. The input on a device like a Mic pre is male. Fine. You connect the back of the XLR patchbay (female) to the input of the Mic pre (male) with a female/male XLR cable. But what if you want to patch the output of the Mic pre (female) to the back of the patchbay (female). You're out of luck. They don't make female to female XLR cables. You could only do this if you have a reversible patchbay like the Hosa Patch Bay, 12-point, Reversible or if you want to start paying out for clunky XLR adapters. So, you must patch the back of the Mic pre (female) to a 1/4" TRS patchbay (with a female XLR to TRS cable). Or alternatively you could patch the mic pre output (female) to the front of the panel (male) and then use the back of the panel (female) to patch to the compressor input on the front (male). Confusing enough?

Now I'm older, wiser and poorer and have also purchased a Behringer TRS patch bay so I can patch any mic to any mic pre to any compressor. So for me there was no way around spending $150 or more. To do what I wanted to do either you spend $150 on the more expensive HOSE XLR patchbay or you do what I did and buy the Behringer TRS patchbay as well as the ART XLR patchbay. There is also the fact that you are going to spend at a minimum $50 on new cables. I spent $150. Now I'm out over $300 but my setup is sweeeeeeeet! Any new equipment becomes instantly available in any signal chain.

IF you have a simpler setup and only need a convienent way to plug any of your mics into any of your mic pre inputs then the ART XLR patchbay will deliver in spades. You will have to connect your Mic Pre outs to either your mixing board, directly to your DAW's digital convertor or to a TRS patchbay like the Behringer (if you want to add more things to the signal chain, like compressors and/or reverb).

CONCLUSION TLDR: For most users avoiding having to go back behind your equipment rack to plug something in is well worth the price of this device and those users will be happy. But for those like myself, that hoped to use this device to patch any Mic into any mic pre and then to any compressor you must either invest in an XLR patchbay with reversible plugs and/or in a secondary TRS patchbay. Art hurts. Artists pay and pay through the nose, be it for painting, sculpture, film and video, writing, music or any other creative form. Music is actually a more affordable artform because once you have your signal chain as pristine as you can get it your really don't have to shell out another nickel on hardware. So bleed now and enjoy bliss later!

Silenziosa e senza colorazioni al suono ... un ottimo prodotto per il prezzo alla quale viene venduta. Utilissima l’opzione reverse delle alette di montaggio rack .. avevo giusto appunto necessita di avere i jack OUT avanti e non dietro come quasi tutte quelle in commercio, sono bastati 5 minuti e un cacciavite a croce, tutto risolto !!!

Works a treat, passes audio through just as it should. Not everything ART makes is super amazing, but their splitters (I own 2) and this patchbay are solid. No moving parts, just does what you need it to do. There are nicer patchbays out there, but you'll pay at least twice as much.
