I should have read the fine print in the product description. It does not come with a power adapter.

I've now used my Brother PT-D210 enough to know its strengths and weaknesses.

This label maker was replacing an old Casio that gave me many good years of service, but eventually stopped printing reliably. If I could have another label-maker like my Casio, I would be giving it a 5-Star review. In all cases, my priority is simplicity and effectiveness in fulfilling its basic, intended purpose. "Bells and Whistles" provide NO ADDED VALUE, and in most cases pose a significant disadvantage. Here are the major objections I have to the Brother D-210:

--The LCD screen is difficult to read. It requires a strong light from behind, even to read the lettering, let alone reading the fine details that indicate the Font Size, etc. My Casio was much easier to read. This should NOT be an issue in 2019!!!!! This problem was solved decades ago.

--Legibility of the printed label is my #1 concern. It's also my #2, #3, etc. concern. Any features that add additional capabilities at the sacrifice of legibility are USELESS to me. My Casio had just one (1) font.. Uno. But it was easily legible. This Brother D-210 has 12 or so fancy fonts. Only one (1) of them--Uno--is useful to me... the one called "Stockholm". Most of the others are a hot mess... unattractive, too complicated, and just a pain in the ass.

--Changing Stockholm font to "Bold" barely makes a difference in legibility. If I select "Bold", I expect the font to be bolder, but it doesn't. I've tested various other fonts to produce a bold-face type that is more legible than Stockholm, and they are UNSUITABLE. (I need this for my wife, who is vision impaired.... In other words, this is not a small consideration. It's important, and the Brother D-210 FAILS THE TEST.

--Margins: There are numerous options. The only useful one is "Chain Print", which minimizes the wasted blank space between labels.... but the one option I'd actually like to have is not available, which is to set a Zero (0) margin. I can make my own damned margins if I want to, by manually entering blank spaces. I don't need this to be "automated" by "artificial intelligence" (Read "artificial stupidity"). Zero margins was available on my Casio, and allowed for full control, and no wasted blank tape. With the Brother D-210, you can choose between "less wasted tape" (with "Chain Print") and "lots of wasted tape" (with either Normal or Narrow margins. Unacceptable.

--Poor control over label size and choice of font size. You never really know what font size a label will print at, until you actually print it... This inevitably means MORE wasted tape. Especially vexing is that you can set the D-210 to print a label of uniform, standard width.... but it doesn't actually print to fill the space available before reducing the font size... which I DON"T WANT IT TO DO. For example, say you want each label to be 1.5" wide, using Stockholm font at "Large" size... but rather than using the 1.5 inches, and leaving, say, a narrow margin, it automatically reduces the size of the font to make the printed portion maybe 1" or so wide. Supposedly, you can set the margins manually... but trust me.... It doesn't work. In the end, I have to print the label and simply cut it to size.

--Other features, such as Frames, are useless to me... but learning how to navigate the menus is complicated, even if you don't want all the "Bells and Whistles" available.

IN SUMMARY, this label maker is more complex than it needs to be, and doesn't fulfill its most basic functions well. I do not blame Brother for these problems. I blame the idiocy of the "marketplace". Brother is just providing what the customers demand. The problem is that customers are idiots. This is the same problem that has given us mobile phones that have pathetic battery life, insufficient memory, and horrible voice quality, and are agonizingly slow. Yet they have tons and tons of "Bells and Whistles". IF I COULD STRIP AWAY THE USELESS NONSENSE IN THE BROTHER D-210, you'd have the makings of a good label maker. As it is, I'll be generous and give it 2-stars.

2.0 de 5 estrellas Margins are too long

Margins are too long. Ending margin can be reduced in setting, but starting margin is always there, and on top of that, it prints a ':' before the text.
This label maker just wastes tape and forces you to use scissors to remove unwanted margins (if you don't want one inch of nothing before and after your text)
In retrospect, I should have bought the DYMO LabelManager 160 which can produce labels with small margins (according to the pictures in the review there)

2.0 de 5 estrellas One of the worst things I've bought on Amazon

For the thousands of dollars Amazon gets from our family every year, I've never written a bad review but his one deserves it! I'm completely confused as to why anyone would write a review greater than a 2.
For all the new technology these days, Brother is way behind.

First of all the delay screen is so light I can hardly read it, secondly, it didn't come with a power adapter and it uses FOUR batteries. I tried 4 different adapters that fit the unit but not ONE of them worked. Seriously how much would it take for Brother to add a $2.00 adapter???? 3. It uses way too much tape for anything I need to print and it only came with one small cartridge...come on add another $3.00 to the product and add another roll of tape and an adapter.

I'm sorry I threw the box away so I can't return it, going to the Goodwill, maybe someone can use it for $4.00.

2.0 de 5 estrellas Works fine, limited selection, designed to waste money.
The overall design and label options selection is exactly the same as it was 20 years ago, they have done NOTHING to improve the capabilities or user experience. This is the SAME machine they were selling in the early 2000's. Furthermore, they are designed (as they always have been) so that they waste labels every time you print. You can change the setting but when you clear the screen for a new label it will be reset to the wasteful setting. It's obviously like this so that you will have to buy more of their overpriced labels. But if you want a stand alone label printer you don't have a lot of choices. Lucky for me there are cheap 3rd party labels available.

2.0 de 5 estrellas Cheap and easy but wastes label tape and uses 6 AAA batteries
Like others have said it seems like this item is intentionally made to make you spend a lot of money on it other than the initial purchase. I would look into another brand of label maker. Its a very inefficient and wasteful device in more ways than one.

I set the margin to narrow but it still prints 1 inch and a dotted line in front of every label which means you have to cut the label with scissors every time you print one. The solution to this is to chain print but that means you have to print multiple labels and cut them and you will still have to cut them with scissors. I want to print one label at a time. There doesn't seem to be a solution to this label tape waste.

Fortunately generic cartridges are available everywhere online for a very cheap price.

This device does not come with batteries in the package or an AC Adapter in the package. This label maker also takes 6 AAA batteries, which is insane. AAA batteries are some of the most expensive batteries out there. AAA rechargeable batteries only come in packs of 4 which means you need to buy 2 packs just to fuel this label maker. You also can't mix rechargeable batteries so if you have 2 different brands of 4 at home you will have to repurchase as this takes 6. The other problem is just about every decent battery charger on the market only charges 4 batteries at a time, so as you can see having a device that uses 6 AAA batteries is a huge problem. I don't recommend using disposables as you will run through them very fast and they are very expensive. Now I already have 6 AAA batteries of the same set at home but that doesn't really apply to everyone looking to buy this label maker, but the charging will still be a problem. If you want to use an AC Adapter this device also uses a special AC adapter that you cannot find easily without paying at least $10-15 for one. Surely, brother could have come up with some other way to power this device, such as the more common AA battery.

I cannot believe that I have to sacrifice almost an inch of tape on each label if I want my text centered on a PT-210 label. Sometime that makes the labels too long. I have an older, less expensive PT-80 that allows me to have nice, short margins. I have seen some of the work-arounds, but none of them should be necessary. If I want smaller margins on at least one side, I need to also have a pair of scissors handy and a broom for all those little extra pieces cut from the left of the two dots [the manual cut line for a centered label]. Worse, with all the good reviews, I expected to love the PT-210 and bought a two pack of tape. I wasted all the sample tape just trying to get my labels to come out centered, with smaller side margins, and not needing to use scissors. I guess this PT-210 and labels go on Craigslist. My next label maker certainly will not be a Brother, nor will any other product. Crappy engineering on one item [Brother confirmed that there is no "fix" for this] isn't a particularly good advertisement for future purchases.

We come in pieces
2.0 de 5 estrellas as whole design

I'm stuck with this because I don't have time to fool around looking for a label maker that does it's job perfectly.
The official but pricey labels I buy from brother holds up well against outdoor weather and it gets the job done. For that, it doesn't get one star.

As a gazillion other people have mentioned, it wastes a lot of label if used as is. A blatant money grab for sure. The settings to conserve label length isn't retained when the device isn't powered. I don't use this often enough to remember the optimal settings. My solution is to print out a label to remind me what those settings are along with tips to conserve label length and put it somewhere where I can't miss it

I save battery power by pulling a single battery and leaving it in a hollow space inside the compartment. A power switch that physically disconnects the power would have been better.
