This might be the season that bbt Jumped the shark. Can't explain without spoiler. Always found the characters to be odd and quirky in a good way but storyline is slowly bending to the will of social norms.
Not the worst show on TV, but nowhere near the quality of the earlier seasons. Sooner or later all shows run out of ideas an this one is no different. I think we all wish this show could have retained the novelty and humor of the first 7 or 8 seasons, but in my opinion, they have just not been able to do it. Season 10 is even less funny than this one, so I might say this is the last season I will buy.
Purchased Season 9. Beware that episode 12 is not included in blu ray package. Last episode on disc 1. Menu says episode 12 but is replaced by the Comic-Con panel episode. You only receive 23 of 24 episodes. We should be able to download episode for free or get some refund.
SPOILER ALERT! Alas, all good things must come to an end. I'm not sure if the writing has changed for season 9, or they are trying to take the show in a new direction but if the first three episodes are any indication, I won't be staying up late at night binge watching BBT anymore. I have watched season 1-8 at least 10 times and saw something new every time. Season 9 is reminding me of 80's sitcoms.....Maybe I'm just changing, or it's because the dynamics of the characters are evolving but something is missing this season. It's almost like it has turned into a bad cliche' and has lost it's magic, relying on stupidity and silliness rather than imagination and intellect. To each his own I guess.
I will love the Big Bang Theory until the very last episode airs. But there is no denying that this show has changed from its early premise of four nerds struggling to interact with people outside of the academic world to the point where its more based on the drama of relationships that these characters are in and to me personally, it has become less funny as the years have gone on. I suspect this is the debate many long term BBT fans have to deal with.
I do have a soft spot for the episode where Leonard and Sheldon by helium from a guest starring Michael Rappaport or the 200th episode—Happy Birthday Sherman! But some of the gags have become tiresome and some of characters have frankly not worked—I’m thinking particularly of Emily. I used to find this can’t miss viewing and it still is for syndicated episodes but season nine has been more misses than hits.
