I purchased two of the ATH-M20x headsets, one for myself and one for my 66 year old mother with hearing damage, and both of us thoroughly enjoy them. I've read in many reviews that the M20x headsets are lacking in the low end of the frequency range, and this is true, so anyone wanting to listen to Techmaster PEB may want to go for a higher end model, such as the M50x, however with classic rock and metal, such as AC/DC, Zeppelin, and Dio, the experience is almost like hearing them for the first time. The sound of the headset is clear and bright, which to my ears gives it an almost tube audio feel to the music. Indeed, Journey of the Sorcerer by the Eagles just started, and, and it makes my $160 2.1 channel Logitech sound system to shame. Considering that it's being pumped through God knows what kind of cheap Chinese sound chip in my 8 year old Dell laptop, what I'm hearing is simply astounding! These are exactly what Audio Technica claims them to be: a studio monitor headset, and they do insanely well at reproducing sound over a wide frequency range. If you enjoy oldschool music, do yourself a favor and buy it.
In regard to the microphone it ships with, I have no answer since I just needed the headset to replace my 9 year old one that broke. I would imagine it to be decent, but you're paying for the headset itself, so even if the mic's garbage, who cares?
Tl;Dr: Get the Headphones only, find another Microphone.
Headphones can be comfortably worn for 4-6 hours, which is much better than a lot of others, and even then you can change up where it rests. Sound quality is great. Durable materials too, so likely to last for several years with casual use.
The major fault is that the Microphone is terrible. The clip doesn't attach comfortably to any part of the microphone, and needs to dangle right in front of your mouth to pick up your speech. The audio output quality itself, even when it is in your face, isn't great. Overall just a huge pain and waste of money.
I love these headphones! These are the first pair of "studio" headphones I have owned. At first I thought they sound horrible. But, they are not meant for listening to music or movies (although I do). They are meant to be used for editing. And now I have to go back and re-do the audio on all my YouTube videos! I didn't realize how bad they sounded until I got these headphones. Going forward, I am sure they will help with my sound editing. They are a great buy for the price and now I am wonder if these are so good what would the more expensive m40x sound like?
My husband is a gadget nerd, so I told him to pick me out the best inexpensive headphones for just being able to watch movies or view webinars and trainings on my laptop. He said these were the way to go and I've not been disappointed. I'm sure there are others that have crazy amazing sound for gaming or whatever, but I just wanted to be able to hear well and not have static or have the cord peel or the bits and pieces break apart randomly. With two destructive kids who "move" these around regularly, I've not yet had any issues and would say these are worth the money.
Ok, let me start with I really like the headphones. The sound is crisp but beware the headphones do get slightly uncomfortable after awhile and need adjusting. I’m giving one star because of the bs “in-line mic” this came with. It comes with a microphone, that’s for sure, but it doesn’t connect to the headphones in any way.. it’s just a spare, useless microphone. I feel duped into buying this version and not the cheaper one without a mic. Will return and rebuy the headphones with no mic
After breaking my last headphones I realized two things. 1. I need new head phones 2. I need something durable. That’s when I stumbled upon these, by far they have been the best headphones I have used to date from sound to build quality these would have to be the best, I have dropped them and borderline thrown them (by accident) and they have still held up and sound just as good as the day I got them. Highly recommend
AMAZING!!!! Love these headphones so much that im replacing my corsair void's with them. the long cable really is not a problem for me, infact i love it. the comfort of these are amazing. super soft and dont give me ear fatigue
I use these at work, and they're awesome. I wanted something cheaper than my ATH-M50X to leave at work in case they were to walk off, and these have been effectively as good at the M50s for listening to music at my desk jockey job.
I do like the sound quality of these headphones. The only minor problem I have is that they tend to irritate my ears from the pressure I want to seal out other sounds, but only after a few hours of wear. I am happy with my purchase.
