I've been on a search for a great printer since my old one died in January. This is my latest attempt.
I received it. Easily enough to setup with a minimum of tech knowledge needed. The print colors are beautiful and true to color. I was pleased finding out I found a good printer for my sticker/label business.
The only real problem I had with setup is the Xerox software and drivers. You cannot install them. Some research on Xerox just to find yeah, Xerox knows and has known, but they just choose to leave it that way. Wow, ummm a red flag that should have told me to return the printer. Bad me.
If you ever use the wrong paper type to the type declared not only in your software but on the printer, you have problems. You will end up with excess toner bleeding onto future prints basically indefinitely. Quick look up, and I discovered I needed to clean rollers. Okay, no problem. Ran a quick paper towel over the rollers in the back, and it cleaned up the smearing. I kind of figure user error. I will learn the paper settings and eventually get them correct. Each day, I need to clean the rollers. Means pulling out a very heavy and bulky printer to get it cleaned nightly.
Went to look for ink replacement. Holy moly! It costs about double the cost of this printer to get high capacity toners. Okay, it is business, so a replacing I go. Kind of flustered at this point. After all, I should have looked at the toner replacement prices before purchasing the printer. Again, I take the blame.
By now I am just weary. I have 4 different paper types I use on a daily basis. I have to literally get up and change it each time I want to change, and then remember to change it in the software to ensure the match. That may not seem too bad, but the printer is in a different room and it seriously slows down the work flow. Click the old fashioned buttons correctly. Then every single time I start the printer, which I do every work day, I have to wait for about 2 minutes for it to completely boot up, so I can press the red button telling it, "Yeah, I know there is no paper in the by-pass tray, and you can continue working."
It does print quickly, and the tray holds about 50 sheets before it begins shooting out the catch tray.
Next, comes the day to change the toner. Pretty easy actually. Yellow went first, then Magenta, then Cyan. Almost all the black is still available. Each time I replaced the toner, I noticed that amazing print quality got darker and darker. I replaced Cyan last night. This morning every single print with cyan is blue. No amount of troubleshooting helped. The Cyan is a dark blue.
Okay, so I can't calibrate the color on this model because apparently Xerox doesn't really want to support or help those that don't top of the line printers - which obviously this is not. I have to logon to the Admin section of the printer using my web browser to adjust the colors manually. Oh boy, this is going to be fun!
I get on fairly easily once I got a magnifying glass because the print out with the information containing the IP address is at a 6 point font. Smallest you can get. They make warning labels larger. This stuff is not meant to be read by a normal human being.
But I get in. I'm duly impressed. Now I need to login so I can make adjustments. Okay this seems simple. Wait... I never setup a password. More research because this isn't in the manual. It's either 1111 or the serial number. Okay, so 1111 doesn't work. Now for the serial number. Back to that sheet with the print not intended for human reading. I try the serial number a few times. I get locked out. Are you kidding me?? If I can't figure this out, I have to pay for someone to reset it for me? Seriously. This is brand new. I never set a password. Default isn't working.
I have to wait for 30 minutes to try again, so here I am writing this review. May as well do something productive.
I bought this 6 weeks ago - 2 weeks past the return to Amazon. My print quality is horrible because, well, I need true colors. I've spent hours trying to troubleshoot this monstrosity. I can't afford to waste this much money on a printer that doesn't work as intended. Xerox doesn't offer support. I didn't have an option for an extended warranty. This is ridiculous.
Buyer beware. If you have money and lots of patience to throw at a subpar printer, this is for you.
I was able to print some pages and they looked really nice. Printed fast and double sided. After a few days I got an error that says to reboot the printer. I rebooted it and the same error kept coming up. I returned the printer. Too bad, seemed like a nice printer, but I don't want to deal with errors if the issue started after 3 days of use.
