I bought this unit about 3 weeks ago. Did very well but suddenly does not power on. The standby power is on but when you turn it on, it blinks and the unit does not power. What could be the problem? How can it be rectified?
This is an expensive peice of plastic that just did nothing but let me down. I haven't bought a stereo or surround system in years and I was quite excited to purchase this unit. I was just wanting a basic surround to match up with my Samsung Q6 TV in a small place. Even in the space it sounds like crap. I've purchased old RCA surround systems from yard sales that sounds better lol really don't waste your money or time. Will be Happily Returning
I purchased this (always apprehensive of buying online) and have been very pleased with the product. No problems whatsoever. I will say that it is not a Bose or some other high-end system. However, it still delivers plenty of quality sound and power. Setup took me probably over an hour because I had to move out the old system - then rearranging all of my cables/HDMI cords to run through the receiver took time. Worth the money if you're looking for a new sound system that won't break the bank. My suggestion is to wait for Cyber Monday or some other Prime event - the unit has been on sale several times.
I connected my Wii to one of the Audio Video inputs, and got only the sound, no picture. I tried to find help in the manual but there is nothing in the manual that even mentions AV inputs! Googling a bit told me that others have also faced this problem - apparently ‘some receivers’ cannot convert AV input time HDMI output! This is ridiculous, my 10 year old receiver was able to do this without a problem. All in all a piece of crap.
One other thing I found out - this doesn’t accept input over Bluetooth - one more example of their false advertising! They clearly claim ‘Bluetooth in and out’ in their brochure...
Can you say Distortion? I've got a similar system from years ago that will take the paint off the walls. (I have that in the garage, per wife's orders). This one is not even loud enough to make her mad. But the sound quality is not up to the Yamaha standards.
The front right speaker channel on this receiver has died after 1.5 years of ownership. The speakers work perfectly, tried different cables, but the receiver refuses to output sound on the front right channel. Convenient that it's after 1.5 years, since the warranty is only 1 year. Never buying a Yamaha receiver again.
Please stay away from from this crap if your goal is to experience music from all angles while sitting on your couch. The woofer can't handle the bass at all and start buzzing on average bass sound. The buzzing get worse on intensive bass sound. Bought this to replace my current home theater system, but quickly got back to it because it's a million times better.
Buyer beware when purchasing from the "Open Box/Used" section. Item arrived in really rough shape and was not in working condition. Bought at a discount in "acceptable" condition, but I'm not sure what qualifies as "acceptable" anymore. The casing on the outside of the main piece was completely broken/distorted, a speaker had numerous holes in the fabric covering, and, most importantly of all, the unit did not work. It powered on, but no sound emitted from the unit whatsoever when wired up. Very disappointed, and will be returning.
Update: got this Oct 2017, now June 2019 and the reciever has stopped working and only plays static. It was always plugged in a surge protector and was working perfectly other then some intermittent issues the day before
