This coming from someone who has been around home theater systems, and car audio. I have also had many 4k televisions since they hit the market. This system is unbeatable at its price point! The sound is perfectly clear with perfect sound production! This system gives you all the control you could need over each individual speaker and how much you want coming from each. The subwoofer has a control knob on the back and AV unit also has great options foe dialong in just how much bass you want coming through. It also comes with a mic that plugs in and you just place where you sit to dial most of it in for those who havent done much with home theater and speaker sets. And as for the 4k HDR pass through its perfect! I was bit worried when i first ordered, but as soon as I had it up and running i ran all the 4k HDR content i could find through it and it looks great on my sony 930e. So if you havent got 2 grand to drop on a klpisch set this is just perfect and way worth it!
Very good mid-low price range system. I mix music on a Yamaha HS8 studio monitor system and have always been impressed with the quality. So, when it came time to replace my 5.1 system I trusted Yamaha to deliver excellent sound and bang for my buck...They did!
While the sound is not as smooth and balanced as a higher end system, it more than gets the job done. The midrange frequency can be a bit harsh and distorted coming out of the center speaker. Highs are crisp with very little distortion and ear fatigue. The sub is more than capable of shaking a room and since it has its own amp its easily adjustable. Adjusting the cutoff frequency was key to getting a good balance. It was preset at 60hz which left out a lot of low end, 60hz and under will be more felt than heard. Cutoff goes up to 200hz. I settled on 160hz which creates a great balance. The power is plenty for my medium sized den.
The options for adjusting the sound are great. The level and EQ of each individual speaker is adjustable. The EQ is 6 or 7 (can’t remember), non adjustable bands with a reasonable gain range. It took several hours of tweaking to get just what I wanted and if you’re not familiar with audio the options could be a bit confusing but not terribly so.
I’m running all devices through my tv and then the audio to the reciever via optical cable. I may change this and run through the reciever first as I think there’s a very, very, very, slight “lip sync” issue.
Some the DSP “programs” on the amp are very good as they push more or less audio through this channel or that and can create a good mix of listening options. But, most of the “programs” are not very useful.
I’m still amazed at all adjustments on this low price-point reciever. It makes it very easy to get a sound YOU like and adjust for the room. The speakers are decent and all around I feel like this system is a great sounding value. No regrets at all. 5 stars for what Yamaha’s was able to do at this price. Hopefully this system will lasts a long time.
By no means am I an audiophile, but I do know what sounds great. I have a similar box set by Sony in my garage & it sounds good. I also have the previous Yamaha model with Bluetooth in a 30’x35’ basement rec area and it more than “fills the room” with beautiful sound. And, having known about this system for years, I immediately jumped when it dropped its price by $110! This new set is in our basement living room and is quite awesome! I have the optical cable hooked up to the televisions in both areas and wow what a great pairing. Our favorite feature is the Bluetooth for our music choices and honesty it was worth $459, but $349 was a steal! If you’re not in the market for an ultra expensive, specialty store set up, this is a superb alternative! We had our house prewired and were prepared to drop thousands, but these systems have exceeded our expectations.
My 1998 Bose Lifestyle 12 surround system finally gave up. The system was in a large dedicated "movie room" with a projector system and 135 inch screen. The 5 Bose speakers were hard wired and mounted on the walls. The Bose system was great and served us well. I originally planned to replace it with another Bose system. However, those plans changed when I learned that Bose surround systems were $3k and up. I wanted to keep the price under $2k. I read the Amazon reviews for the Yamaha system and decided to give it a try. (To be honest, I was a little skeptical due to the low price). When the Yamaha system arrived I was somewhat disappointed with the "feel" of the speakers. The speakers were made of light weight plastic and felt somewhat cheap. On the other hand, the powered bass module and receiver felt rather well built. To my surprise, I was able to use my existing wall mounts for the Yamaha speakers. Setup took longer than expected, as I had to perform mental gymnastics, due to running a cable box, play station, xbox, TV, projector, and an HDMI splitter. Once setup, I turned everything on and cranked it up. This system is loud, clear, and every bit as good as the old Bose system. I am truly impressed with this product and it's low price. I could not be happier!
Initially I was quite upset when I tried connecting this to my TV and the sound was very obviously cracking. Instead of connecting to my TV output I switched and now have all of my devices connecting directly to the amp with HDMI, then a high quality HDMI cable connecting the amp to my TV. It’s made a HUGE difference and these speakers sound amazing!
Also ditch the provided speaker wire and grab some high quality cable there too. Even the Amazon Basics cables are better than the cheap stuff in the box.
I never realized how big a difference cables can make... don’t skimp out on them, even though this is a “cheap” home theater kit it can have some pretty great sound if you know what you are doing!
This home theater system works great! Great sound quality. The speakers are a little smaller than I pictured but that works perfect. We love this system and would recommend it if your looking to use it for a projector/home theater system, gaming, or just a nice sound system in your home.
I purchased this unit to replace a 20yr old Aiwa bookshelf surround system, and so far I'm happy with the results. Everything needed (sans speaker mounting hardware) is in the box. The instructions are straight forward making set-up easy. The system comes with a small microphone that's used to calibrate the receiver to the size and shape of the room it's in. This feature works very well, I noticed a difference before and after the calibration. The controls take some getting used to, but they're easy enough to figure out after a few uses. Sound-wise, this unit sounds good for the price you pay. The bass thumps, and the mids and highs are where they should be. There are numerous presets for games, movies, and music, and if you choose not to use the presets you can manually customize the sound to your liking. If you're worried about this unit breaking then buy the extended warranty, it's cheap. I also recommend purchasing the Amazon Basics 100ft spool of 16 gauge wire for this unit. The wire that comes with the unit leaves much to be desired. All in all this is a good system for the money spent.
