SUMMARY By way of introduction, I purchased this projector a few weeks ago after extensive research and comparison of compact projectors in this price range, but after a couple weeks of testing did return it due to a couple features which simply did not meet my needs. 1. The resolution wasn't enough for me. 2. There is NO keystone correction when using HDMI input.
It's a really nice little projector. Amazing form factor. Impressive picture, though the resolution turned out to be inadequate for me as I intended to use this as a second display for my Surface Pro while working on documents or editing videos. If you just want to watch movies, it's great. I'm going to save a bit more money and get something with native HD resolution though.
Below is a loooooong version of my thoughts.
BODY Sleek and handsome physical design. Feels solid. Amazingly compact. Similar to the size of a smartphone, but thicker. The touch-sensitive buttons on top are pretty, but since there is no tactile feedback they are a bit tedious to use as you have to be careful not to contact any of the other buttons while navigating. Thankfully the remote control options provide an alternative anyway. There is a physical power button on the side, indented to prevent it catching on anything. Great design choice as this prevents accidentally powering it on or off while carrying.
FAN If you're in close quarters and not playing sound, the fan can be annoyingly loud. However in most cases this probably won't be an issue. If you have audio playing, you probably won't notice it.
I/O Amazing selection of connection options. This was a selling point for me. HDMI in, 2 USB inputs, wifi, bluetooth, micro SD. YOu can wirelessly mirror from Android and Apple devices. Unfortunately there is no such option for Windows, so I was out of luck with my Surface Pro.
DISPLAY When I first turned it on, the colors were alarmingly poor. For example, brights were magenta instead of white. It felt really limited in color range. However after adjusting some settings such as turning saturation way down, shifting color hue and brightness/contrast I got a picture that looks pretty good most of the time. Overall the picture is very decent. Considering the size and price of this projector, it's an amazing picture and great for watching movies. However for productivity I found the resolution was not clear enough. It is an eye strain if you have small text or need to see any sort of details. Brightness is fantastic in a dim environment, and still usable during the day as long as you're projecting on a wall that is not in direct sunlight (then you'll lose the image almost entirely).
SOFTWARE/SYSTEM The fact this projector runs Android is fantastic. You can go on the app store and install apps, use Youtube and other services directly. You can also plug in a USB drive and play files directly from it. I downloaded the VLC media player app and it worked well for playing videos. I did find there was frequent lag while navigating with the remote.
The "E-Share" app which you can use to connect your Android phone to the projector is AMAZING. It has a number of options for how you can use it is a "mouse" or remote control. One option makes your phone screen like a touch pad on a laptop, another option lets you point your phone at the screen and control with wrist movement (like a Wii controller). It takes a bit of time to get used to, but is a fantastic option. You can also wirelessly mirror your phone screen through this app. With this app, you'll hardly need the separate remote, or the buttons on the projector body
BATTERY I didn't time the battery duration, but I expect it ran close to 2 hours. It seemed to run out fast but that is probably because I am used to most electronics having a longer battery life. Considering the power it requires, it's pretty decent. Just plug it in if you have the choice!
KEYSTONE CORRECTION Has vertical keystone correction, which is really helpful. But no horizontal keystone. This is somewhat limiting, but the vertical correction is most important. I was shocked to discover, however, that the keystone correction DEACTIVATES when you use the HDMI input as your display source! This means you do NOT get any keystone correction when connected to your computer. This was a deal breaker for me as use with my Surface Pro was my primary intention and having no keystone correction pretty much destroys any benefit of having a portable projector.
ACCESSORIES The included remote is handy, but not too necesary if you use the optional smartphone app. The included mini tripod confused me at first because I could not spread the legs wide enough to actually support the device! However I finally found out you can rotate the ring to adjust how wide the legs can spread. Once that was resolved, I found it to be a great little stand for the projector allowing you to aim it anywhere.
CUSTOMER SERVICE When I decided to return the device, I emailed the company and received a response within hours. However this responsiveness did not continue. The next time I emailed them, I waited for 3 days and never heard back. I finally sent another email to follow up. They replied without apology for the long wait. I decided to process the return through Amazon instead, and Amazon's service was excellent.
When i powered up this projector it appeared to work fine the image was very clear and stable and it was quite easy to set up.However after running the projector for around 20 minutes it got very hot so much so i turned it off, waited for it to cool down and then tried again. The projector became very hot again after running for a short time so i decided to return it to Amazon and explained the problem i was having. Amazon were very good with the way they dealt with this issue and i was offered a refund straight away.
I'm not a super tech so I cant comment on the intricacies of that but we are very pleased with this. The picture is good, very easy to use, my daughter doesn't watch TV, shes into YouTube and pod casts etc so this is perfect in her room. Overall a good buy, would recommend
What an excellent Christmas present. The whole family love it. Great value for money, compact in size. Produces a really clear picture to watch at various sizes. Would definitely recommend this product
