It does more than you could believe...

The first thing that as a customer, I would need to know, is that the customer service at Ashley Software is amazing. They will write back and forth in emails at any time. I never had to get on the phone with them.
I was looking for a software that would allow me to write bits and pieces out of sequence, and then move these parts around until they were sequenced; i.e. dream journal. When I recieved the software, it was jaw dropping as to what it can do. You can make "note cards" that are note card size, or chapters long. You can print them. In the end these note cards can be turned into a document. You can make these blocks/note cards something that can be saved to a template, such as for a sales agreement, and then be able to write blocks around these blocks to incorporate newer informarion, or information that is specific to a particular item. It can write novels, research papers, screen plays. It has a smart dictionary that will learn names. You can make a list of most frequently used words, sich as Pharmaceutical...you don't want to type this ten times, so you have it recognized by the 4th letter, and it will be automatically selected. There is a "power bar", which is a double of a writer's blocks block. It has a setting that makes it "always on top". With this feature, you can browse the web for reliable facts. You can make a fact box by cut&pasting your selected data, and then copying the URL to later create a proper works cited, works consulted or bibliography page. I wish I had this tool 25 years ago!!
It is for a mind that needs to "get it all out" first, and organize later. I am thrilled with this software.

*A note on the item packaging. It is a key card only. The picture indicates this, but it can be confusing when you get the folder in the mail; there is a place for a CD. Disregard this space. The company makes all kinds of software and uses the same packaging. Also, if it seems used, as mine did...not shrink wrapped, and the round sticker was dirty and not wrapped over the two sides... this is most likely due to wearhouse storage at Amazon. I tweaked thinking it was used. Knowing that customer service is fantastic, try to register the product. If you have trouble at that point, contact Ashley Software and they will work things out. They do have a wepage where you can try the product first. 😎

Perfect for Technical Writing

I purchased this product to help get me back on track for creative writing. However, I do quite a bit of technical writing for work. This is a very useful tool if you have a ton of information that you need to organize quickly. For example, a client gave me a stack of about 50 forms they use on a regular basis as input for a requirements document. I entered the details of each form into its own block and placed the blocks in order according to the business process. What I loved about Writer's Blocks is that I could pick up any form-no matter where it belonged in the process- and simply enter the requirements for it in a block. Then I moved (drag and drop) the blocks into their correct order (number) and sequence (column or process title). With one click I renumbered the blocks. I then created a manuscript and exported the whole thing to Word. What would have taken me days, to figure out and organize, only took a few hours.

I reviewed the tutorial only once and was able to get started right away. It is a very intuitive tool to learn.

I had some technical issues with activating my license. Ashley Software responded to me very quickly (within 15 minutes by email) and I was up and running in no time.

I"m very happy with this purchase.

Huge deception. No cd, just instructions how to download the software online.

Such an ugly deception and insideousness, technology is. Comments about this product on amazon states "keep your writing private on your pc, and you can use it off line!" So insulting to open such a deception, a software cd package empty of the cd promised on amazon, but instead directions how to download the software online, and use it online.

Podcasters take note... This is also a great product for planning and organizing your podcast shows! I’ve long been a Post It Note lover. This takes it to the next level! I’m using it by creating one column per show and then using the blocks to organize my disparate thoughts into a cogent episode plan! The interface is a bit dated but it’s very easy to use & effective. I’m so happy I found it!

I owned a previous version of Writers Blocks and this new version has some very nice updates. Over all, Writer's Blocks has proven to be a great way for me to organize my thoughts, you might say - creating order out of chaos. It would probably be a waste of time for an "organized" writer; but for all the rest of us, it's a real blessing, and you have to learn how to use it instead of fight it..
