OK, it functions fine, needed no drivers, and provided immediate use with the Garritan CFX and my el-cheapo keyboard.
But, really guys, do we really need LEDs that could double as landing lights? I had to put black electrical tape over them so that the blinding blinking green and solid red doesn't draw everyone's attention.
This spoils a nice product, makes it "user-grouchy".
I'm using it to transfer MIDI data between the laptop and a vintage Roland D-50 synth. Initially the device didn't work when I was using Bome SendSX software. Indication was that there was no connection between laptop and synth. So I switched to Midi-Ox and it worked flawlessly on the 1st try. So... it could be not 100% compatible with everything, software differences or merely user error. In any case, if you try it and encounter trouble go for Midi-Ox as your midi software as it did work for me.
Pros: Cheap, seems to work fine out of the box on a few OSs. Compact and easy to keep one with my laptop.
Cons: Good lord are the LED's bright! Had to tape them up. Surely the manufacturer can use some more reasonable indicators, or pony up a couple extra pennies for some resistors. Might be fine for outdoor or bright room use, but for a standard/dim room or stage this is too much. One star off for the blinding lightshow.
