I wanted something simple, affordable, and reliable. I was looking at pocket wizards remote shutters. While they are one of the best on the market they are a bit pricey so the search continued. These are new on the market this year but reviews were good. $38 vs $270 and I don't use flashes that much for my wildlife photography so it would have been overkill for a pricey unit.

I unboxed these. But batteries in. Plugged it in and it worked flawlessly on my 7d mark ii and 1DX cameras. Tried the distance out and it worked very well. Took it out in real-world and still the unit worked great with no hesitation. I wouldn't want to get them wet as you can tell their not watersealed but for the price you can't argue. Press halfway down and it focuses every time. It's just a unit that works with no complications which is all I can ask for. I have tested it out up to 40 yards and it still just worked. I'm very picky and these suit me great.
Update...I've been using the remote for a bit now. Still works great.

SO happy with this purchase! I use it with my Nikon D5600, and since I got the camera I’ve struggled to figure out how to shoot wirelessly since in this model, Nikon took away the option to connect to a remote via Bluetooth, so after the Snapbridge app went down after the IOS 13 update I looked into a remote again and I am so happy I found this! All you need is a remote that plugs in (similar to an intervalometer) but this one is smaller and much easier to hide in your hand than other models. Another review said they couldn’t get it to work with their D5600 but all you have to do is make sure you plug it in to the remote outlet on the left side of the camera, it’s super simple and it definitely works!

I bought this remote for my new Canon T7i DSLR camera. It works perfectly right out of the box. The only thing that I don't love is if you mount the receiver to the hotshoe on top of the camera, then the flash can't pop up and be used. So I just plugged it in and let it dangle which is kind of bulky but it's a small inconvenience to have such an awesome remote shutter. I recommend it as long as you know that.

Works well but can't use the eyepiece when installed. I use rear button focusing and if you don't know what means it is separating focusing from the shutter button. If you use "live view" it works perfectlly but this will drain the battery. If this could be mounter sidewards in the hot shoe I would be able to use the eyepiece.

I bought one of these to use with my Nikon D 7500 while taking pictures with a long lens and camera mounted on a tripod. I wanted to reduce camera shake while taking picture of birds and also when doing night photography with a 500 mm lens. The device comes with two cables, a 10 pin round cable and a square cable that fits my Nikon. The other end as a round 2.5mm plug that fits into the receiver. The receiver can mount on the hot shoe of your camera or can be mounted elsewhere using the 1/4 - 20 tripod mount the spiral cable allows you to orient it away fro the camera. Be careful to make sure the cable and the wrist strap are arranged so as not to interfere with the operation of your camera.

Before mounting the receiver on your hot shoe, plug the round 2.5 mm plug into the receiver. I found I had to push it in firmly to get it engaged. That is not something you want to do while the receiver is on the camera because the hot shoe mount is only made of plastic and you could break it off easily. Plug the other end into your camera being careful to observe the orientation. The camera plug is marked to make this easier but you might want to put a spot of white paint on it to make it even easier, especially in low light.

Turn on the receiver by pressing the on/off switch. There is a green LED that blinks to let you know it is on, If your situation requires total darkness, put some tape over the LED. Turn on the camera and the remote should operate, The receiver has a button to trigger the shutter. A half press focuses the lens and a full press takes the picture. Push and hold to take a burst of pictures. You can also use the small remote to trigger the camera. The smaller remote includes a second button that gives you a 2 second delay, This is useful for self portraits in case you were looking at a monitor, it gives you time to focus back on the camera lens.

When I have a chance to check the range of operation, I will append the results to this review.

I think this device is a good value overall for my needs. The durability is probably not going to be enough for a professional photographer but it is a value priced option for us amateurs.

This device works as described. However, I had not consider that with the receiver mounting in the flash shoe, I can't mount my SB800 flash. The receiver also blocks the built in flash on my D5600 from opening.

It may be possible to mount the receiver on a separate tripod mount shoe, but that would require a second tripod close enough for the sync cable.

Interested if others have suggestions.

I had an infrared remote for my a6000, but it only works when it's facing the front of the camera. That wouldn't work for a shooting situation that came up, where I had to be behind the camera. This remote did the trick; not a problem at all. I did not test to see how far away from the camera it would still connect, but I did get to about 20 feet and there were no issues. The only possible negative was that the cord on the main unit went into the camera's port (it's the USB port; there are two on the side of the camera) easily but was so difficult to unplug that I thought it might eventually damage the port. But after a few uses it came out much easier and everything was fine. One minor note: the camera part does not have to be on/in the hot shoe on top of the camera; works fine just dangling, and it's so light that it won't tug on the cord in the USB port.

It works great and is easy to use, for a fraction of the price of the official Nikon wireless remote. I use it to set up a wide angle lens on a lawn where javelinas graze, then I stand back and wait for one of them to get curious and sniff the camera and I fire using the wireless remote. It fires every time from any angle and several feet away. I haven't tested it to see what the maximum range is, but it seems to have good reach. Simple on/off button on receiver (which also has a firing button if you want to use it as a cable release without using the remote). Remote has simple firing button and a smaller button if you want to fire with two second delay. (Not sure why anyone would want to, but it's there). For the price it can't be beat.

Good but stopped working

I bought this remote a few months back, and it worked great. I was so happy not to have to use my phone to help with shooting. I used it 1-2x per month for the first three months. I pulled it back out last month, and it worked okay but not like before. I changed the batteries, and it was fine. I tried to use it again last week, and it wouldn't pair. The transmitter kept flashing red when I tried to connect it to the remote - changed the battery again, and nothing. I'm out of the return window so I'm stuck...it's a great remote when it works.

I initially bought this for my A5100, but just couldn't get it to autofocus so as to engage the shutter. If I held down the shutter halfway on the camera, it could complete taking the picture (with the red LED status), but holding it down halfway on the remote did not do anything on the camera. Obviously, having to do this would defeat the point of this product. Seeing as most people who use this had at least an A6000, I got one, figuring that the a5100 was not compatible. However, that didn't solve the issue. I was about to return this product and try something else when I did a last troubleshoot - mind you, I had already changed every possible setting in the cameras to try to get this to work.

I will say that I feel pretty dumb now. It turns out I did not have the cable inserted all the way into the remote. It always seemed fairly securely plugged in, and I did not notice any troubleshooting advice in the manual that matched my problems, so I assumed that it must be something else. After all, I was getting -some- info to the camera. Yes, it's user error. No, they did not make it easy to figure out what it could be.

The other reason I'm giving only 4 stars is that this thing eats batteries. I have only used this while troubleshooting - so not much time - and I'm already on my second AAA set. Thus I would advise carrying spares!
