Everything about this system is cheap. The remote looks like a child's toy, the speakers are light weight and their sound is substandard. I've had great success with past Yamaha products but this is not one of them. Save your money and invest in a proper system with good quality speakers.
I did a great deal of research on this before purchase and everything said I should be able to use Bluetooth headphones but it just doesn’t work. Found headphones that work with it. But now after less than a month it goes into some sort of protection mode and I have to unplug it and plug in back in to get it to turn on. Manual say to contact a dealer or nearest service center (which is at least 7 hours away). Hopefully I'll find a support number for it or the warranty I bought.
Had to call tech support 3 times..was on call over 30 mins each time. Although support was helpful you have to have a background in this type of electronics to get to work..when the sound worked, we didn't have a picture on the tv then vice versa..was a nightmare! Then the speaker wire in the items bought frequently together was too big...don't want to see another sound system for a long time!

This will be a completely honest, albeit negative and critical review.
This systen sounds so bad. I can't even play music on this loudly because it starts to break down in quality over 40%. And forget about using the 2 rear speakers with music. I just turn them off because they only have a whizzing grainy shaky sound. And all the fancy settings do basically nothing to improve the music quality.
The only time this sounds somewhat good is with tv and movies. This is the only time the fancy settings make any kind of a difference.
And the music cast is a joke. Just buy a fire tv stick and it has basically all those capabilities and makes your tv capable to use Bluetooth headphones and such or buy a Bluetooth reciever and transmitter for less than $50 If you need both transmitter and receiver.
I am actually super upset I chose 2 not just 1 of these(the version with and without music cast) because now I have to pay taxes on 2 sound systems I don't even want to use much less crank up due to the embarrassment of the poor sound quality. Vine members don't get their items for completely free, we still have to pay taxes on the things just like income. I don't want my neighbors or friends to hear my poor choice in speaker system. I have a Logitech z906 and it rocks your socks off and is only $300! I play that at the max and am not embarrassed or shameful at all! Ill probably just put one of these sets in the guest bedroom that gets rented out since I dont want to switch the logitech out for this yamaha and I'm sure the roommate will be thankful regardless. Ill keep the relatively inexpensive Logitech z906 in the livingroom since it blows this system out of the water.
I'm not an audiophile and I don't know much about sound systems, but I do know when something sounds like crap. And at least the back speakers were working until I switched from optical cable to arc, and now my 2 rear speakers only work when I do the test tone or when I choose bi-amp instead of surround and I'm not calling customer service.
At first I didn't know about ARC so I was using an HDMI cord and digital optical cord to play sound from the tv thru the sound system and what was great about that is I was able to shift through the different sound modes and raise and lower the volume on each individual speaker while still having a TV show and sound play but as soon as I took out the digital optical cord and only used an HDMI cord with ARC I lost that feature. If you can only see the menu on the tv screen and can't be hearing a show or music in real time while making the sound changes then you would have to switch back and forth every time you make an adjustment and you wouldn't even know what difference it had made really. I tried to put back in my digital optical cord and go back to switching the sound options while having a TV show on in the background but I can't figure out how to get back to that. So now all the fancy sound options are useless because I can't tell what difference they're making truly. It was so nice to be able to flip through the different features and compare the differences in sound quality in real time but now I can't. I must be an idiot because I've been trying for 2 days to get back to the way it was and I can't. I didn't mind having to turn the stereo on and off or adjust the sound separately from the tv if it meant I was able to fully experience the abilities of all the sound settings in real time.
And the speakers wires come 1 long cable. You have to cut and strip yourself. And the cable is white. WHITE! Basically the only thing I like about this system is that you can mount the speakers directly to the wall with screws without any additional hardware. That's good for me since I want the 2 rear speakers as far away from my ears as possible due to the lack of sound quality.
Please, just pass on these unless you don't care about hearing your music come out grainy and with horrible background noise. Its unbearable.
