Okay Microphone, But Not Professional Sound Quality

The Amazon Basics is an okay microphone, and is definitely better than using a computer's internal microphone or a set of headphones with a built in microphone. I purchased the Amazon Basics microphone intending to set up a second recording location for a podcast, and made some test recordings to compare it to my older Blue Snowball. The sound quality was not as good as the Blue Snowball (sound is thinner with more treble), and I decided to return the Amazon Basics because the quality was not quite sufficient for a relaxation podcast.

Pros:
- The audio is clear and crisp, and would be perfect for conference calls, recorded interviews, etc.
- Background noise picked up when recording vocals in a quiet office space is minimal, especially if the microphone is held close to one's mouth when speaking. In this respect, the Amazon Basics was equal to the Blue Snowball. It is not necessary to have a professional recording studio to record decently clear audio without fuzz/hissing sounds in the background.
- The microphone is small and lightweight but seems sturdy.
- It comes with a small tripod stand that would work well on a desk.
- Low price.

Cons:
- The audio quality is not as full and rich as with higher quality microphones. There is more treble, and in this respect, the Amazon Basics was inferior to the Blue Snowball.

Conclusion:
- The Amazon Basics is a good, low priced microphone that is suitable for many purposes such as video creation and even some podcasts (if the focus is more on content and less on voice sound).
- For professional quality recording with rich, full sound, this microphone may not be adequate.

Budget Microphone Delivers on Quality.

I was in the market for an upgrade to an old Logitech USB microphone that I had laying around and checked out places that review gear online. As typical I check out Wirecutter's reviews and this was their best budget pick.

I decided to get this one as an Amazon Warehouse Deal and while the listing reported it as 'minor cosmetic damage to accessories' the tripod itself was actually broken, as that is I didn't knock it any stars for that particular issue though I have no experience with a 'stock' tripod so take that into account. I can see how others would be complaining about a flimsy tripod. BTW For those of you who experience tripod issues the NEEWER DESKTOP TRIPOD ( https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01KSR0VNK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ) functions as a suitable replacement part (and it's probably a bit more sturdy as its metal rather than plastic).

Despite the fact it lists a 'Mute Button' I could not find any such button as of writing this review. I believe they're counting the fact that you can adjust the microphone gain knob to basically nothing as a 'mute button'. This is not an ideal way to do things as messing with the microphone gain levels as a means of muting is less than optimal for recording purposes as well as for streaming or podcasting purposes as touching the microphone gain knob to do such may result in changing levels and making things seem louder or quieter after using it this way.

My friend says it sounds better than my previous microphone. Though I haven't done extensive testing with it yet so expect updates though I'm quite pleased with it.

Excellent value in a USB microphone with monitoring

This is a terrific little microphone. It has two pickup patterns – omnidirectional and cardioid – and gives live monitoring of the mic signal through a headphone jack on the back. The microphone has gain controls for both microphone and headphone, making it easy to adjust without going into a computer menu. The mic comes with a toylike desk tripod (it could be used as a handle in a pinch), but is better be mounted on a standard mic stand. The sound quality of the mic is amazing for the money.

Just after a few uses as you see in the picture, the plastic holder just cracked and the metal legs dropped off! I am wondering who can put the metal legs into a plastic holder? I think this manufacturing defect should be gone.

After a couple of months, the legs just crumbled. Not exaggerating, there were tiny little pieces of black plastic everywhere and one leg was separated. The mic just lived on my desk, I did not take it anywhere or even move it much. It was for meetings.

I thought this would be a good mic to have for meetings. It has mic gain and headphone volume control knobs on its body and a button to change the pickup pattern, which is a nice touch to have on any mic. I didn't want a large mic, so I thought this mini one would be good. Unfortunately, it's a lot larger than I expected, but still it wasn't a deal breaker. However when I was testing the sound right out of the box, I was very disappointed to find that the sound quality was poor. Your voice sounds very thin and as if you're speaking through a radio. Adjusting the onboard settings did nothing to help fix the issue. I bought a cheap Insignia mini mic from Best Buy that is smaller and more appropriate for a work meeting and its sound out of the box is clear and sounds natural. I will be returning this mic.

Fantastic sound at a reasonable price

I now work from home, and purchased this microphone for use in videoconferencing. My existing desktop computer does not have a microphone and the microphone on my webcam is very poor, so I have been dialing in to my videoconferences with my phone so people can hear me. But with this microphone, which now sits on my desk behind my keyboard in front of my monitor, I can connect instantly to my online meetings without having to dial in separately. Once I got the microphone set up as the default mic, it worked flawlessly. The first day I was using it, I asked a coworker if he could hear me and he said it sounded like I was in a recording studio. I'm very pleased with the product. I do wish it had a mute button or an on/off switch, as I end up plugging it in to use it and then unplugging it when my meetings are finished. Would definitely buy again.

This is an excellent USB microphone and is great value for money. Compared directly to the also popular Fifine unit, the Amazon unit wins on sound quality (voice sounds fuller with no eq). The only thing that was better about the Fifine unit was the tripod, which is better quality than what this comes with.

NOTE: AT THIS TIME, NEITHER MIC WORKED WITH TEAMS. TEAMS WORKED FOR A MINUTE OR TWO AND THEN TURNED THE LEVEL ALL THE WAY DOWN. Evidently there's some "virtual cable" third party software that "fixes" the issue, but it's too much hassle for the average user. Microsoft needs to wake up and fix this issue!
