I purchased this to replace one that my Daddy bought me in 2008. It was so special to me.
The place we bought it from had since gone out of business so when I found this on Amazon, I couldn’t get to my credit card fast enough!
The packaging was fine. It came in a ‘flat’ box and I had to assemble it.
Assembling it was tricky! At first, I was all thumbs. But if you follow the included directions EXACTLY, and be patient, by the time you get 1/3 of it done, the rest comes pretty easily. It included extra clips which was a bonus. Total assembly time took me about....30/40 minutes.
In terms of sheerness, it’s more opaque than sheer.
I also wish it had a longer cord (it’s only about a foot long). I’ll be using it as a center light in a craft booth so we are going to have to run a cord to it, for sure.
If my kids don’t have their hands sticking out when I get my tax refund (🥴) I may treat myself to the two other sizes.
For future buyers, I’d make sure to measure the space you will be using it in, before you buy. Once you put it together.....you’re not gonna want to take it apart, so figure out where you’re going to store it as well. (If not using it immediately.)
It also looks wonderful in your backyard garden, or under a gazebo,etc. You don’t have to use it just for holidays. It’s very versatile!

It looks nice for the price! I thought it was tough to put together until I realized if you put them in the space at an angle, you can turn the point into the right space. Made it much faster and easier to put it together.

Despite what reviews say, this is not hard to put together. I think where people were having trouble was the middle section. The base is two parts stuck together and when you try to put the spikes on where the two parts meet, they come apart a bit. It’s very easy to just hold the base together while you’re putting on the middle spikes though. Took maybe 10 min total. Over all, it looks great. I do wish the base appeared more sheer (you can see the creases between all the spikes) when it’s lit up. But it’s geometric shape kind of goes with it, so I don’t mind it personally. It’s also very bright.

Missing parts! The bulb was not included! The instructions say it’s included yet it’s not in the box. Making a Walmart run I guess to see if I can find one to use; if not I will have to return the item. Everything else so far look ok. Disappointed gave it one star for that.

Update: Bought LED bulb from Walmart and finished setting up the star. It looks great. I just wish it had been included in the original package. Updated review to four stars.

I found that it's important to carefully straighten the points on the star so the light will get all the way to the tips of the star points. Looks great now.

Our family of five always makes the tree a team effort. Hubby insists on multicolor lights, kids like LOTS of ornaments, and I've been searching for the perfect star for 20 years. This one might not be perfect but better than we've had before.
Pros
* Very clear and bright
* Diffused light
* Can't see any wires, bulbs or defects once it is on the tree.
* This size is good for a tall tree -- ours is 8+ feet in this photo.
Cons
* Came with a round bulb, maybe a slimmer shape would make it easier to "unfold" the star
* Difficult to attach to the tree - sits at a weird angle. We ended up getting a garden stake to put through the bottom and then tying the stake to the top branch , but still the star leans outward. Since our tree is against a window and tall, it was OK.
* Possibly a little too bright? You can see how it illuminates the whole ceiling above the tree. The kids felt like it overwhelms the other ornaments.
I like this star. Even if we don't use it as a tree topper I will use it elsewhere in the house as a cool nighttime decoration.

Perfect. Instructions were a little hard to read in piecing it together. If you have trouble with Ikea you will have trouble with this. However, the finished product is great. The topper does not go on the top branch, a pole goes inside the star and you have to ziptie it to the tree. This can be difficult. Also, be prepared to run an extension cord through the middle of your tree to reach the light. Good luck on that if you are putting this on a real tree. I am satisfied though...

This is my second Moravian star by this manufacturer. The first lasted approximately four seasons. It would have lasted longer had I brought it inside after Twelfth Night. If left outside too long, the exposure will make plastic brittle and it will lose its white color. The light bulb that came with the unit was flimsy and had to be replaced after two nights when it shattered inside the star. With a new, sturdier bulb it is casting a nice white glow. The unit comes with a plastic hanger but it isn't very strong. Instead, wrap the cord around a metal S hook and hanging it from that so that you remove the tension from the cord and allow the bulb to hang freely inside the center of the star, which renders the best light. Rain and melted snow will collect in the tips of the star and need to be drained when you take it down; the tips can crack from the expansion if left inside to freeze. Fasteners for the star points are adequate but there are no extras provided. When you have to change the bulb you have to remove the fasteners with a needle-nose plier because it's very small space, and the fasteners will snap if repeatedly removed. Overall, it's a good product for use at the holidays and I'll buy it again when this one wears out in a few years.

Did you know there’s only 60 days left until Christmas?!
I’ve been looking for a Moravian star, and decided to buy one because making my own out of paper seemed really hard, and really not durable. And This is one is so cut! I love the way it looks! I wish the tabs to assemble it were less visible, but I’m overall very happy! It was easy to assemble! Just follow the directions.... it’s just some busywork, but I’m all about that! The led light is a really nice warm white color too. It’s going to look so nice on my tree!! SIXTY DAYS PEOPLE!

I am - ahem - vertically challenged, so I was looking for something I could use to decorate my house for the holidays that did not require me hanging things 10’ above my head. These Moravian stars fit the bill really well! They were pretty, both during the day and when lit up at night, totally simple to put out on the lawn, and I had a lot of people comment on how unusual they were. Yes, they are a pain to assemble, and yes, they are a bit challenging to store (took off one star), but worth it!

Sturdier than expected; disappointed in cord/bulb fire hazard

I was worried about ordering this item because of the negative reviews, but there aren’t a lot of alternative offerings out there for a Moravian star.
The product was easy enough to put together and is sturdier than another family member’s star that has been in use for 25 years.

Giving this item 4 stars initially because the lightbulb arrived broken and the lightbulb is hanging too high to avoid fire hazard. The manufacturer put a spacer on the light cord at a height that causes the lightbulb to touch the side of the star.
I was planning to switch the bulb to LED anyway but I am a tad annoyed I have to adjust the cord inside as well. This should be easily accomplished with a zip tie.
