Let me tell a little bit about my self before I start, I may not call myself an audiophile but I take sound very seriously, I have headphones worth couple thousand dollars, including Master and Dynamic, Bowers and Wilkins couple of Sennheisers and I listen to music on Polk audio setup with a high end DAC.
I have had this system for the past 10 days and in this review I'm NOT going to compare the Monaco 5.1 with any of my high end systems, because it is not fair and I would like to disclose that, I bought this system with my own money and this review is not sponsored, I'll try to provide my honest feedback of what it is for the price that I paid for it, though this system is tailored for home theater experience, I'll also mention about how it sounds musically because I think that might help some that are looking forward to listen music on these.
Though the box had some real heft to it, unboxing was simple and straight forward, you get 4 surround speakers, 1 center channel, 1 low profile sub, 1 axiim link and all respective cables included, you essentially get everything that you need to get started out of the box, the speakers themselves are well made and look beautiful.
Please note that these are not traditional home theater speakers, these are Wisa speakers, Wisa is the new standard for wireless audio for home theaters and you won't need a receiver for these to work, but, these speakers are designed ONLY to work with Wisa capable sources, at this time, the choices we have are 2019+ LG OLED or nano cell TVs and any mac or windows PC.
I bought these speakers because these are Wisa based and for the ease of setup and I was not disappointed, just remember to start your setup by installing the axiim app on your phone then, plug axiim link into your source, plug in the speakers, start the app and assign your speakers and you are done! simple as that!
I should say these sound really good for their size and price, I have set these on my fairly large living room and they have no trouble filling it up, I played few movies from Netflix and the surround sound experience was rich, the center channel was able to produce crisp and clear dialogs with almost accurate vocal tones, the surround channels produced good balanced sound but could have been a tad bit detailed, it is detailed enough for you to be able to pin point effects that they produce but they lack a tiny bit of resolution, I'm happy to report that, there is no latency on any of these channels that I could discern, the lip sync was perfect and that is very impressive for a wireless system, the sub seems to lack some oomph considering it's size but it has got enough power to make you enjoy your movies, just don't expect it to rattle your home, all in all the movie watching experience is very good so far.
Though these speakers are not designed with music in mind, especially when they are tuned by THX, they fair quite well, as it's with a typical 5.1 setup, when listening to music it functioned as just a 2.1 setup (only the left, right and subs were working), these are forgiving set of speakers that can happily stream from any quality source (the source need not be of highest quality/bit rate) which I can't do with my unforgiving high end audio systems, having said that, the vocals (mids) are really enjoyable and represented fine, you could connect with the singer well, my only gripe with the mids is that it is not very open by that I mean the voices lack headroom or air, though we can't expect it on a system that is designed for movie experience, if it were present, music experience would have been excellent, talking about the lows, as I have noted in the movies section, the sub did not produce rumbling bass, but what it lacks in quantity it makes up in quality, the lower lows are represented very well, as a result, what you hear is smooth, punchy and well rounded bass, though a little bit of fake bass is added when you keep the bass setting as 'Optimized' in the axiim app, I left it on because they make movies a little more enjoyable, for music though, it added a little color to the songs that I listened to, speaking of highs, there is absolutely nothing to complain, they are not too sharp, well detailed and well balanced, the tweeters look like they are made of silk but they do their job very well adding life to the presentation, to my surprise, these speakers also produced very good sound stage which I wasn't expecting and also had decent stereo imaging too.
Though I took a big risk by buying them early when there ware no reviews for this system, I should say, end of the day, for the money that I paid, I'm pleased with these speakers, the fact that I could enjoy 5.1 surround sound, with a fairly simple setup and without the need to run speaker cables and also without experiencing any latency that is typical of a wireless system, I would say these speakers are exactly what I was looking for and they work very well as promised!
