Una película que me hizo reir, llorar y sobre todo, reflexionar muchísimo sobre la forma en la que aprendimos a manejar nuestras emociones.

5.0 de 5 estrellas Emotional drama that gets you thinking

Cmon cmon is not my usual type of film. It's a drama film that I do like but has to be done right for me.

This one hits that mark. The acting is wonderful and the bond between johnny and his nephew is believable and well acted.
Joaquin is a fantastic actor anyway but his delivery within the emotional scenes was brilliant and believable.
Woody for such a young actor was fantastic and only anoying in the sence of when he is supposed to be in the film. His acting in this is amazing. The chemistry between the actors was spot on and the emotional acting hit the spot and never felt forced.

The film deals with family drama and the question of the future in his job. And some of the lines in the film from both adults and young teens leaves things to ponder over.

The film is shot in black and white and not to over artistic shots on general are rather static but it fits with the film well.

"Whatever you plan on happening, never happens. Stuff you would never think of happens."

A great drama and one I'm glad to have in my collection.

Cannot praise this movie enough. Whilst Joaquin Phoenix is brilliant, Woody Norman is even better. A very rare gem of a film indeed.

5.0 de 5 estrellas Emotionally Honest and Adorably Sweet Indie Drama!

A life affirming family drama full of sweet sentiment and thoughtful advice.

Director Mike Mills (Beginners, 20th Century Women) delivers a touching new feature with his delightful indie drama C’mon C’mon (2021). I truly loved C’mon C’mon for its cute interactions and naturalistic performances with Mills’ brilliant humanist writing. Mills’ direction is impeccable with a stunning blend of dramatic conversations between a boy and his cool uncle as well as the uncle and his sister about life’s meaning and hardships. All of these sequences are juxtaposed with actual interviews with local kids and young people about how zoomers see the world and what they expect out of life. I was drawn in by these quaint and surprisingly poignant interviews with all of these thoughtful kids, but I really adored Joaquin Phoenix and Woody Norman hanging out.

Mills directs these two in such a natural way like it’s a lonely, middle aged uncle and his troubled nephew really just getting to know one another. Mills’ direction intrigues you with reflective style and honest interviews, only to devastate and entertain you with the wonderful pairing of an unlikely parent and his temporary ward. C’mon C’mon is touching, hilarious, devastating, and absolutely life affirming.

Writer Mike Mills brings his genuine sincerity and profound sensibilities to his ever earnest films. I adored C’mon C’mon because Mills always has something real to say about parenting, love, or life. I always want to keep living and enjoy life more after seeing one of Mike Mills’ pictures. Beginners is one of the most profound and realistic depictions of depressions as well as representing the gay community and cancer patients with a raw humanity. Mills pulls off the same wondrous feeling of sincerity and thoughtfulness with his pensive words and atmospheric tone. C’mon C’mon is written with an empathetic lens to feel and think how each of these people are feeling or thinking as they reflect upon their lives. It’s so cute and tender.

C’mon C’mon deals with an amiable and lonely uncle, an energetic and precocious child, an overwhelmed single mother, a bipolar father, and a mother stricken with dementia and possibly cancer. I think every line of Mills’ dialogue beautifully captures the woes and joys of parenting a child that can be ecstatic fun as well as pure terror to the point of exhaustion. New parents should really see C’mon C’mon for real advice about listening and communicating with your child.

Editor Jennifer Vecchiarello seamlessly splices together dozens of conversations with the numerous interview segments for a flowing narrative that never loses focus. C’mon C’mon moves along steadily for a brisk 109 minutes that never bored or dragged for me. I love the hard cuts from a frustrated adult to a curious or worried child. The swift cuts keep you sharp and engaged in the drama on screen. Cinematographer Robbie Ryan’s gorgeous black and white cinematography feels so modern, yet old school in how he shoots scenes casually during conversations in wide shots. Then there’s entire scenes shot in ultra close-ups of just faces reacting to all the cute little moments between uncle and nephew. Every shot had my eyes glued to the screen. C’mon C’mon is even more stunningly shot than Belfast or Passing as far as I’m concerned.

Joaquin Phoenix gives some of his strongest and most genuine acting as cool and patient Uncle Johnny. Phoenix is astounding as he nurtures and converses this young boy without condescending down to the boy. His funny joke delivery, magnetic charisma, good nature, and kind patience make for an enthralling hero in Johnny. You want to know this gentle and nice man. His sincere acting features subtle cues when Johnny is overwhelmed, exhausted, uncomfortable, cozy, or playful. I love this paternal display of near fatherly love from Joaquin. He looks so happy here in C’mon C’mon. He certainly should have gotten a Best Actor Oscar nomination, if not won an Academy Award for C’mon C’mon.

Woody Norman is fun as the spoiled, scared, precocious, strange, and possibly bipolar boy Jesse. His comradery with Joaquin is sweet and he can be inquisitive and heartbreaking. His performance has fun playful moments of messing around Joaquin alongside tearful honest clarity in how confused and hurt Jesse feels. One day, I imagine Woody Norman will look back on C’mon C’mon with a warm nostalgia for having been a part of a classic Mike Mills indie drama besides getting to act alongside a legend like Joaquin Phoenix. Gaby Hoffmann is relatable and fun as Jesse’s funny, tired, and overwhelmed mother Viv. Scoot McNairy is shocking and devastating as Jesse’s absent bipolar father Paul.

Molly Webster is pleasant and funny as Johnny’s interviewing co-worker Roxanne. She’s got a fun sense of humor. Jaboukie Young-White is fantastically natural and friendly as Fern. He really is the nicest man in New York. I have to commend each child interviewed for their emotional openness, pragmatic and hopeful perspective, all while being honest with adults. I felt like each kid was truly not acting, but speaking from the heart. I’m sure every viewer will find their observations and perspectives fresh.

Katie Byron’s production design creates a realistic looking home for Joaquin’s home and a lived-in looking house for Woody’s place. The locations all look like Mills and crew walked right into real people’s abodes. Set decorators Andrew W. Bofinger, Nicolás D'Agostino, Kendall Anderson, and Elsbeth Mumm provide cozy props like the recording tape and microphone to furniture that looks like a family would own it in their actual homes. Costume designer Katina Danabassis lets every character have a natural daily outfit throughout C’mon C’mon. Everyone certainly looks like a Gen X hipster or a real zoomer kid.

Composers Aaron Dessner and Bryce Dessner of The National write breathtaking melodies and gentle musical passages. Their music caresses each scene like a light night rain or a soft fog coming over low hills. C’mon C’mon has one of the year’s greatest scores with understated and lovely songs that complement the natural style of Mike Mills’ direction and Joaquin Phoenix’ acting. Sound designers Zach Seivers and Justin M. Davey captures ambient noises like Joaquin and Woody’s characters with pleasant mixing. You can hear all the voices and each wave crashing or skateboard hitting concrete with a piercing distinct clarity.

In all, I simply adored C’mon C’mon. It will surely be remembered fondly by all who seek out great drama and Mike Mills’ indie drama C’mon C’mon delivers emotional realism and poignant advice.
