The more we watch Mark Rylance, the more we appreciate the training a stage actor receives. This movie could have been enjoyed by the blind. That is how good Rylance's performance is. The entire story takes place in an immaculately, and fashionably (old-fashionably) set up, bespoke tailor shop - but as Leonard Burling (Rylance) points out more than once, he's not a tailor, he's a cutter.
The movie involves Burling, his assistant Mable, played by the lovely Zoey Deutch, two underworld gangs of Chicago, and a brief appearance of an FBI officer. What a treat. You might need some time after the movie has sunk in, to realise why Burling did what he did. Good to pay attention.
I thought this was a fantastic movie. It’s not for the “Fast and Furious” or “Jack Reacher” crowd, though. There are no high speed car chases and the main character doesn’t fight off 23 ninja experts. In fact, the entire movie plays out in a tailor shop. If you like well written and brilliantly acted dramas with unexpected twists at the end, though, you’re likely to enjoy this one as much as I did.
I'm a huge fan of Dylan O'Brien, which is what drew me to this movie in the first place. This movie was fantastic! The cinematography was beautiful. The score was so brilliant. I loved everything about it. Definitely a must see.
The Outfit is an intriguing mystery superbly acted with subtle twists and turns. This drama from a different era does not rely on glamorous sets or technology but simply lets the acting carry the plot. And the acting is first rate. This is a well crafted film that lets the acting shine.
Best new film I’ve seen in a long time, powerfully written and acted, literate, clever, by turns witty and horrific. With surprises enough to satisfy any thriller fan. This is a RESERVOIR DOGS for the 21st century.
